Ram, get the paper and pen out for those pros & cons lists then prioritise what you need and what you want out of your new home. We sacrificed indoor space and, even, garden space in favour of location and the ability to keep livestock
SL - I have 5 adult hens, 1 cockeral that's only here on his holidays, the 3 newly hatched ducklings and 5 quail. It's the eggs hatching that are making up the numbers just now, as there are currently 24 chicks plus one of the above 5 hens sitting on eggs. The overspill is in the incubator as she couldn't fit them all under her, plus there are a few quail eggs. I live in hope of having my laying quail. Anyone want some hen chicks if the next lot hatch?I reserve the right not to spend.

Good morning and happy may Day to all - I was expecting to see loads of frugalers about at dawn, washing faces in the dew and reciting phrases about white rabbits, but not a single one in sight. :rotfl:
Blue sky, sunshine and just a touch of frost that has, since, gone, so this could be a great day for gardening if I can get the work out of the way soon.
New month, new budget - good luck to all those who are starting again. It takes a while to cut spending and I'm shocked by just how much 'garbage' I buy, after sitting and going through all my receipts from last year. I will get the tax return done soon, but got side tracked comparing supermarket prices. I seem to adapt my shopping to reflect whatever is on offer at the time but things like washing up liquid have trebled in price for the cheapest brands! :eek: I guess we can start waving goodbye to loss leaders.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a great day and a great month. The weather should be improving - we had a heatwave for 3 weeks in May last year - and the gardens, pots, tubs should be starting to look good.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Having spent most of yesterday number crunching my spreadsheet (thought it would be a quick job to finish it off yesterday morning, but it took a couple of hours and then some!), I'm back to moving stuff around in my craft room today...... and I must go and make a start now I've finished my breakfast (something I have after school drop off, 'cos before I pick up GDs is just tooooo early for me), as I need some workspace in there before 8pm today :eek:
Nyk - loved the picture of the ducklings, and remembered to show them to elder GD this morning. She simply adores them, but asked if they'll get 'proper beaks' when they get olderApparently the fact they're rounded rather than pointed means they're not real/grown up ones - so I've had to try and explain that birds we see flying around and in our gardens normally have pointed ones for grubbing around in the earth, while ducks (and other aquatic birds) tend to have rounded ones for fishing...... I certainly didn't expect this thread to turn into a biology lesson for KS1 children :rotfl:

Quick post to round off April.
Would have been another good month but spending on birthdays really pushed my total up!
Spent so far this year = £1160.80
Remaining = £2839.20
Congratulations on the new house sophiesmum!0 -
After such a beautiful start to the day, it is now pouring with torrential rain here!
So much for getting up at 6 to get work out the way so I can play in the garden!
I guess the first frugal act of today will need to be cutting out more sticky labels to stick letters onto my keyboard AGAIN. I don't know who ever designed the modern keyboard on Sony laptops but they should be hauled over the coals for it - letters on the keys should not wear off and, if they do, it should be a simple exercise to replace them!
Not planning on spending any money from the household budget today. I think I've spent enough on groceries for the time nbeing and really, really need to start making a dent in the mountain of bits & pieces that's crammed into the freezer. We managed to finish off a tub of ice cream and some fish fillets (not together) yesterday but then the space got refilled with the pea & ham soup and stewed rhubarb! :rolleyes:
Must go retrieve Silkiechick from the garden, she's starting to look like a drowned rat - silly bird! I guess a rough shelter isn't good enough for her, she wants luxury accommodation! Like a porch!:rotfl:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.
