  • Hi Everyone!
Thanks for coming to the party last night!
The weather is dull here which is great as long as it doesn't rain. Going to start packing up our stuff at our parents in a mo. Then its off to get our bits out of the container and take them to the cottage. Mr SFT is nervous at driving the lorry down the country lane...don't blame him.
Not sure what the coverage will be when we get there but I will feed back either tonight or tomorrow.

    Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Good luck with the move, SFT. It was dull here earlier, too, but the sun's shining now :)

CW, spotted this and thought of you, seeing as you like big houses etc. The diningroom is 4.36m x 3.65m, so your dining table would be fine in there. :) It's in the village next to where we were trying to buy the plot over the river that had no bridge. :rotfl:

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm just pleased to get rid of my tax return and be able to see how the finances stand. It's DD's birthday in a couple of weeks, DS is going away for a few days training soon, DGD will be starting school, then it's her birthday and then it's DD's wedding. By mid-September, I should be able to start concentrating on what needs done here before winter sets in and sees out another year.

Going to try to make this a major frugalising day to help catch up with all the recent overspends. :o

Now that is what I call a "house" ;) And it's even by the primary school which my current place is too, so even more of a "home from home" :rotfl:

But I know in my heart that if I do decide to move (whether it be local or long distance) I'm going to have to downsize my belongings and expectations :(

Was chatting to DS last night about all kinds of 'random' things - which started with me asking when he had to start applying for Uni places. I jokingly asked if he were planning on trying for Oxford/Cambridge, and I was told not to "be silly"!! One of the reasons against (though well down the list) was the distance from home - at which point I made a comment along the lines of "but if I decide to move away after you start Uni, then you'll have to find your own place anyway."

I was then asked if I was really considering moving, and I mentioned your area as a possible - either for a business that doesn't have as much competition as it would here, or for a reasonable property that would leave me money in the bank to live off. (We agreed there are bound to be other similar places in the country in terms of that, but he accepted that "knowing" people in the area is a good plus point)

And he was all for it !!! Reckoned that if I get a business he could come help me run it once he fininshes Uni (apparently doesn't expect to find a job in the line he's training for easily  ), and he enjoys "being in the sticks".....

He then asked "they do get Internet access - right?" On being told "sure - at a reasonable dial-up speed" he looked horrified........ and decided that he doesn't want to come live up there after all :p (Not sure what the access is like now you're settling in, nor what it's like where there's a bigger cluster of properties - but seemed a good way to get a reaction from him  )

But he's still keen for me to move that way so he can come up on extended visits - and apparently if I should decide to wander up for a look around the area then I have to put the dogs in kennels........ 'cos he's coming too !!!!!!!!!!

CW, There's high speed Internet access/broadband in the towns & villages, it's just that we're too far from the exchange to get a decent connection. Similarly with mobile phones, we have no O2 signal at all but can get others. I don't even class us as out in the sticks because we're just off an 'A' road. :D But then again, I have never lived in a busy town or city, so wouldn't know how to compare it. If you don't mind jumping into a car and driving, then everything you need is within about an hour's drive.

Wing-clipping has been completed on Mrs Black & Mrs Brown, so that should HOPEFULLY save on the added expense of having to increase the height of the fences for now. Just popped in for a quick cuppa and am now back out to rummage in the garage for what's left of the tubular frame from the greenhouyse - it should make an ideal framework for growing stuff up, along, over and down. :D To Frugaldom and beyond! :D

    Catch you all later.

sounds much as I'd actually expected with regards to Internet :T didn't say that to DS though as I thought it would be a good way to get an honest reaction from him :rolleyes2

and I luuuuurve driving - a lot of folks I know think I'm weird for that, but if I need to unwind there's nothing I like better than getting behind the wheel of the car and hitting the roads for a couple of hours (or more). Just the cost of fuel puts me off doing it these days

How's all the "livestock" doing? Seems an age since I had any pics to share with my GDs!!

SM - will you be looking at getting a dog when you move up there? Dawned on me last night that you'd mentioned the only thing stopping you at the moment was the fact your accomodation is really more like a flat.

  • NYK - That house is exactly the kind of place that DH and I would love. All I have to do now is convince DH to move to Scotland (as we live in Devon this would be rather a big move for us)

Hello to everyone else, although I do not post very often I still read everyday.

The frugal living is going well, the main thing that we are doing at the moment is overpaying the mortgage, if we carry on we should pay it off in 1 year 9 months :T

Sorting out stuff for a carboot that DH is doing tomorrow so should be a NSW (No Spend Weekend)

    Have a great weekend
