Need a cheap direct debit quickly!

A slightly strange request:

A few minutes ago I signed up to the A&L account that gives you £100 if you let it transfer your direct debits and standing orders to them. Unfortunately I've just noticed that you need at least one direct debit in order to qualify for the £100, and I don't have any (I only have standing orders).

So I'd like to ask, what's the cheapest direct debit that can be set up before A&L request the info from my current bank (which hopefully won't be 9:01am tomorrow)? As I've very rarely had any direct debits (only one or two for magazine subscriptions which I've since cancelled), I have little knowledge of how long they take to set up.

Short term magazine subscription is probably the best. But takes at least 7 - 10 days to set up the DD Mandate. And that's if you do it via telephone / online where they use AUDDIS to set it up electronically. Up to 28 days if you do it on paper.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

Call up any of your utility companies and set up a DD there and then. You can usually do this over the phone or online.

For a direct debit - Paypal ! Quick, easy and free.

Charities will do a standing order, not a direct debit.

Incorrect. Great Ormand Street Hospital, for example, use Direct Debit. :j
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
