They can charge you for it if they like. You are aware that the handset is locked before you purchase it (or should be, most T&Cs state this fact) so it is your choice whether you wish to purchase that handset, or go elsewhere (ie Carphone Warehouse) to get an already unlocked one. There is absolutely nothing in law anywhere to say that you have a legal right to be able to use your handset with any sim card other than the phone provided with it.I accept no liability if you chose to rely on my advice.0 -
the phone is Free for you to do wish as you wish , sell or give to a friend
the contract is for the sim card , if you fail to honour that part then they will chase you for the debt, not the return of the phone
been at this for many years so trust me that I'm correct
The contract is for the network AND the phone. You only have to look at sim only deals to know that you get a better deal for less money if you choose not to have a phone. You are right that they chase you for the money owed, but the phone cost is also included in it anyway, hence why they don't ask for the phone back.
