You're not confusing Car Auctions with Car Boot Fairs are you squeaky?

I ask because, as someone who purchases from Boot Fairs to recyle, reuse and for the bargain 2nd hand buys (not to later sell on via Ebay or somesuch) I wonder now where I would post about Charity Shop bargains? Or the Scout Jumble Sale? Or the School Fete's White Elephant Stall??

Car Boot Fairs/Charity Shops are resources for purchasing 2nd hand items and even though it can be common practise to *haggle* at a Boot Fair (which I also do at other times/places as per MSE advice), it doesn't quite fit in with the definition of "Auction".

Certainly if I were to visit my local Auction House, then naturally I would think to post in this forum, so no confusion there (for me).

Sorry for posting in the wrong Forum, but it was an honest mistake - next time I shall simply find another way of wording the thread title (as you recommended to another OS poster last year) so that my thread remains more fitting for the OS forum if it involves factors such as modern style Jumble Sales, recycling, reusing or purchasing of 2nd goods, which was the context I made the thread in initially (not as a resource for procuring goods to sell on Ebay).

Thank you for your comments squeaky. I shall make sure I don't make the same mistake again :):)

Pardon me, but I often hang out on the Ebay board and I love it when Old Stylers are sent here. You're such a different community and I am full of admiration for what you do. And awe. You're so different in your views and it's nice to see these spill over to other forum areas.

Now get back to your bickering with Squeaky ;)

Personally I love the interaction between boards. If Apprentice Tycoon's thread about selling on Amazon hadn't ended up here I would have missed out on several hundred pounds worth of sales so far.

Thanks Queenie for starting this, I have been looking for ages for something like this.
I just love carboots. I am very lucky to have a regular Sunday one just down the road
from me. I live in Telford, Shropshire. It is even on during the Winter. I go most Sunday mornings.

Have had some great bargains, the best being my breadmaker for £1.00. also got toaster, kettle and slowcooker very cheap. I stock up on books at 10 and 20p.

On my wish list now is a food processer as mine has broken.

I really think Car Boots are very much old style, waste not want not etc and just love the idea that these things are recycled in this way, just think what would happen ifthese things were just thrown away.

Would love to read what bargains people have found, Best wishes to all Booters, keep up the good work.

I have bought two yoghurt makers from boot sales - I also had a lovely little steamer but unfortunately let it boil dry and it died. I am on the look out for a waffle maker ( would not let myself buy one at Tchibo and regretted it as they were £14.99) - I love it when you have a list of needs and lo and behold they turn up at the boot fair.

I always visit boot fairs with a wish list...uuumm ok ok and picked up a few things that aren't on my list too ;-)
If somethings cheap and I think I can sell it on ebay I'll buy it and if it doesn't go I pop it on a boot stall towards the end of the summer.
I also go through my daughters wardrobes and know exactly if they need new tops or bottoms etc. so I know what I'm on the look out for. Especially evening outfits that they only like wearing once or twice, so they always go down great and they're normally in great condition.
I'm like you looking for fabric for quilting in natural colours too...mind you my fabric stash is getting quite large right now, but fabric is a little passion of mine.
I'll pick up toiltries for gifts....(I've brought so many gift packs in this way and normally for about 50p - £1. They make great pressies for my daughters friends etc. and they look as if they've given them a really nice pressent (so no embarassment for a 14 year old means good news).
Last year I had a sandpit, paddling pool, sit and ride car, harry potter books, clothes, roller blades, whicker shopping basket, and other bits and pieces on my list and within a few weeks I'd managed to buy them all.
I love the atmosphere at a car boot and can't wait for it all to begin again.
I do haggle a little, I must admit I'm not the best if they say no I normally accept no and still buy it if I think the price is fair.

LOL I know what you mean - guilty of doing that myself ;) On a market stall, I'm more determined to stick to my haggling guns though and it was *because* I was prepared to walk away when the stall holders wouldn't budge ... that they tapped me on the shoulder as I walked away and gave me the sale at the price I had offered :D Admittedly, it doesn't always work that way though.

At Boot Fairs, half the time the items aren't priced anyway, so I find it easier to buy at a haggle there but don't feel the need to walk away if they won't compromise, simply because I usually need the item anyway and it's the social aspect of haggling rather than the financial impact.
A good bit of healthy banter can brighten most peoples day :D:D
