I went to the doctor today, after suffering from exhaustion for months and losing my balance/feeling dizzy etc.
She's referring me to a physician at the hospital. She also referred to the physician as a "more clever doctor". Lol.
Anyway, I just read up that they generally deal with difficult and complex cases? Iunno.
I just feel like people think I'm wasting their time to be honest. :(

  • I'm also undiagnosed. I am on Anti- inflmmatories, Co-Dydramol and have just been put onto medication for high BP.
My symptoms are, if I remain in one position for more than about 5 minutes, I 'set'. It takes me more than ten minutes to get out of bed each day, my balance is shot, I can no longer reach my feet to cut my toenails, I am stiff, walk very slowly with the aid of a stick, in constant pain in muscles and soft tissues, Sleep pattern? What sleep pattern? Having a bath is impossible, and a shower only if sitting. Stairs have to be taken sideways.
On good days, I attempt to catch up on housework, etc., and spend the rest of the week wiped out.
    I'm 61 and feel like 91!
I used to be a very active woman, a nurse, who enjoyed horse riding, dancing, rock climbing and other outdoor pursuits.

As I got nowhere with my GP, I looked up on the 'Net, and the nearest I could get was either Fibro or ME. I took it all to my GP who read it and agreed that something like that was obviously happening, but last time I went, I was told I Still have no diagnosis!
    Grrrrr!

    Cheers, HG

Hiya Hellsgranny what you need to do is get your gp to refer you to a arthritis consultant, they are the ones that diagnose firbo, your likely to be told there and then.

Stupid as it sounds if you get a diagnosis this should lift the stress, getting a name for something wrong with you, helps you accept/understand and learn to manage. only took my gp about 5 years to get me to that stage. Get back to the Gp and keep going on about seeing the arthritis consultant. good luck

ps forget the housework, it's not important
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

Just as an update, I went to this today and he said he suspects I've got some nerve damage and told me to get my doctor to prescribe me some gabapentin (?)
He urged me to push for an MRI. I've had letter through from the orthopaedics department for a consultation appointment. It's all the way in June and I'd still have to wait for a scan. I phoned then to say I'm not working at the moment, so please put my name down for last minute cancellations.
They said they don't have lists like that and I had to keep calling up to check. I've got the number saved in my mobile and phone morning and evening.
I've also got a meeting with work this week. I'm going to them to ask if they'll fund a private scan.

I'm shocked that people can be ill for so many years without proper investigation. What exactly do we pay for?
People generally do get proper investigation but doctors and specialists aren't miracle workers. They can only deal with what they have in front of them and use a process of elimination, which can take a long while.
If all the tests they do are negative, what else can they do?

I'm not expecting them to be miracle workers, but as this thread has shown, SOME doctors and specialists don't listen and refuse to send you for the tests in the first place.

I've been telling my doctor about the numbness in my arm and hand since last October, and he didn't refer me to a neurologist until summer this year. It wouldn't have happened either if I hadn't kept asking.
Getting there... A deal at a time. :T
