Does anyone else's dog go mad when it is windy??

When it's windy, my dog seems to go absolutely crazy out on walks - her and Cleo (my mums dog) were both crazy whirlwinds of dog madness today, chasing and running, plunging in and out of the water, and generally haring around at top speed - which is funny to watch, as my mum's dog is very leggy, and my dog is very stumpy, but manages to put up a good chase:T .
Badger does not normally like going in the water much, but today she was right in there, covered in sludge and hurtling around, spreading sandy water and mayhem in her wake!
I have heard people say that horses are a bit wild when its windy, and that kids are too, but never noticed anyone saying it about dogs - has anyone else noticed it, or do you know why this may happen?

Windy weather lets loose killer plastic bags which Bandit hates
One even followed...or should I say...stalked...him up the road once.
Fireworks - pffft, they don't even cause him to lift his ear from a good sleep.
You'd better find some money saving connection here or this thread will be moved to The Arms

Mine doesn't go mad but he hates the wind and won't leave the house when it's too windy.0

Oh it is moneysaving Sou - it's a free way to exercise your dogs really well, and they made me crease with laughter today as they were so bonkers - so free entertainment too, and it kept me out of the shops, and I didnt even want to call in to the supermarket on the way home as I was covered in mud and paw prints!!0

They certainly give more than they receive - even including the muddy paw prints :rotfl:

Many theories, fear, maybe picking up on your "energy," by the sound of what you say i would lean towards maybe, its in your dog from times when dogs hunted to survive. Instinct if you will. Wld and windy is idea for a hunter, sound and smell are covered. Your dog could be feeling these urges and not knowing what they mean so instead of getting gee'd up and going into hunting mode, hes just getting gee'd up. Not only that scent is being carried down wind so your dog is being provided a lot more information in than normal so could be getting overwhellmed by all of this. Scent is a dogs primary and most developed sense.
Hope this make sense? And its just my opinion, im no expert.0 -
Heh, I thought it was just Indy who goes mental when it's windy....
Last night she wouldn't come in after her bedtime wee because she was too busy bumtucking around the garden, usually she plods out, has a wee (and the other if required) and plods back in again to bed. It was REALLY windy here yesterday. And, a trip to the beach the day before when it was also super-windy led to a mad dog diving in and out of the sea, then refusing to come out of a static pool she found! We had to tempt her out with a Bonio :rotfl:0 -
My Dennis the Menace is OK walking into the wind, but if it is coming from behind then he sits down firmly and WILL NOT MOVE !! He doesn't like having a cold bum !!
Do large dogs get stubborn? How do people cope? When Dennis 'goes on strike' which happens quite often, I just tuck him under my arm and carry on, just as I did with the stroppy toddlers!

Oh yes ! Dennis can't possibly walk if he has a tiny leaf or twig stuck in his fur. Sometimes we get quite a way ahead before we realise he's left behind but there's no way that he will move until we've come back and removed the offending object.
He can't/won't walk with his coat on either....that was a waste of money!
Beryl our other dog will struggle along with half a tree caught up in her fur, nothing stops her !!
