Nokia N73 slowing down - should I update the firmware?

I have a Nokia N73 that's a a few years old now, it seems to be slowing down recently ie if I move the joystick button to the right (which on my phone is set up to be the calendar) it takes a few seconds before it flashes up, same wirth starting a text message and various other features.

I've been to the Nokia website and there is a firmware update available - is there any value in updating the firmware and will it solve my general slowness problems?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts :)

This is a known firmware issue. A full reset fixes it, but so will a firmware update. :)

Thanks, sorry to sound dim but what's the difference between a full reset and a firmware update?

I imagine what is meant is a factory reset, where all the settings are reverted back to the way they were when you bought the phone. Depending on where contacts are saved, you might lose these as well.

I advise just going for the firmware update, if you have a USB cable, then download Nokia PC Suite, back up your phone, install update, and then restore the backup to your phone.

Before you update, take a backup. You will lose everything on the phone when you do a firmware update (contacts unless saved to SIM, mp3's, photos, themes, videos etc. etc.). Backup in PC Suite then Restore when you're done. :)

I saw this post after I'd done it but the instructions advised to back up so thankfully I did! When I restored it the only thing that was lost was the functions that I'd assigned to each button ie right/left/up/down push of joystick, easy enough to reset and now the phone is much quicker so thanks for the advice :)
