Is there a pic of your dress on their website? They've got some gorgeous ones on there! Bet you're excited for when it's returned so you can try on again and again (atleast that what I've been doing!) I'll be doing the dishes in mine after the wedding, love it so much. The family don't believe me, but watch this space...:rotfl:0 -
Just had a read through of T & C there too. Be careful, the company believes it can say no returns. Under the distance selling regulations, I believe they can't say that. A buyer has 7 days from receipt to return an item. And as it's not stated on their site, they have to refund postage both ways too (that's how I understand the regulations, please check for yourself of course!).
Not that I think you'd have any reason to return the goods, but the law says you don't need a reason..
I'm sure they're a great company, never heard bad of them. It gets rid of the worry of dealing with overseas if you're going down the route of a lookalike dress.
That is the case with distance sellers.
You are able to return an item IF it hasn't been made to your specific requirements, ie, it is in red and you ask for blue. Once you hit the custom made button, you can't return an item. The 7 day cooling off period doesn't come into practice for distance selling.0 -

Are you sure? I've gotten it all wrong then.
I should have said of course, that it doesn't apply to custom made orders, which is understandable I suppose.0 -

This is it, yes. Once you hit the pay now button on a custome made order, you cannot change your mind. This is when the 7 day cooling off period is exempt. Sometimes, this is what the internet sellers rely on. A bride will be unable to try before she buys so the safe bet is to have it "made to measure"
I have my own T&C which states this as do all of them, but to keep my reputation, I would do everything in my power to make sure something is perfect for the client.
Taken from understanding uk distance selling.
It is worth noting that if no 7 day-cooling off period was stated in the original terms and conditions of the contract, then the consumer is automatically entitled to a three month period in which they can change their mind about the purchase. Also, the right to cancel or withdraw can be implemented by the consumer even once the goods or services have been provided. The supplier should offer a full refund for cancellations made by the consumer for up to 30 days after delivery or provision of services begins.
There are some exceptions to cancellation rights, most notably services such as catering or transportation that are provided for specific times and dates, personalised or customised goods, perishable goods such as flowers and food, unsealed software, audio or video CDs or DVDs, and auction sales.

Doh!! I thought you meant 7 day cooling off doesn't come into it for all distance selling. That'll teach me to read the screen when I'm doing coats , and laces, and finding packed lunches and reading books all at the same time!
I think you're right, that'll be why a lot of sellers say that an item is custom made for each customer. Funny how so many of them still don't fit when they arrive..
That link is v useful, thanks, Gonna have a proper read through (when I get a mo!)0 -
I contacted Island Elegance about a dress I liked and this is the lovely response I got:
Thank you for your enquiry, you can customise style 260 anyway you please. However, customised gowns cannot be returned so would advise because we dont want you stuck with a dress that isn’t suitable, that you place your order and we then send you a stock dress to take a look at to be sure it is the dress for you before making alterations to the style
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Have a lovely day.
I thought this was a good service to offer, especially for those unsure about ordering online. Not sure what happens if you then decide that you don't like the dress though! Either choose aother style or lose your deposit I presume?

There are a few bridal shops in Portsmouth similar to Island Elegance who can custom make dresses & have ready made dresses to view. They are called Phantasy Kingdom and Deerhobbes. Just thought you would like to know, as I have been to both, on my search for my own wedding dress.0

For some reason this rings alarm bells with me. How many companies send you a dress to try on (apart from the catalogues) then you send it back when you decide it is the dress you want but have it made to measure?
What do they then do with the returned dress which is now "soiled" as it is most defo not brand new. Do they have 1 sample dress they send out to all their customers? If this is the case then they'd need a few of the same dresses in various sizes. Thinking about it, that's a massive stock collection to merely send out as a try before you buy.
It's not like your high street shops who have 1 maybe 2 sizes to try and then have a sample sale. I worked for Pronuptia and many dresses were only held in 1 size in store. The shop didn't have the floor space to cater for all sizes in all styles.
As you can tell, I am sceptical. Only because this is something I am looking to do myself in the future. But, I am doing a lot of research to not only protect me, but to protect the most important person of all. The customer!
Thanks Lindsay toffee for wanting to pass on a company who you have found amazing. That is what we are all here for, to save money.0 -
Lindaatno they have a shop with standard fit dresses and they regualrly have sales on items so I think that maybe these itmes then go into the sale, not too sure though. There is a feeback page from brides on the site too, hope this helps xLoves Vegas shopping and beauty products!0
