Help Needed Global Credit Cards

Hi All,

I have just had a phone call telling me that I have been pre approved for a £4,000 credit limit gold mastercard. They had most of my details but for verifacation purposes I had give them my bank details but they asked for the long card number and security code etc.... They then explained that I was going to be put through to another person to confirm all my details which I did. I was then asked to make a donation to Save a Child charity for £5 per month with MY bank card. I kept saying no but they just asked over and over, then I got put through to someone else who was going to give me a verifacation number that was important and needed for if they ever need to call me or I need to call them. He said no credit check was going to be done as it was PRE approved, he then said I will get a confirmation call in 2-3 days and that was it. Considering my credit rating is that bad I could barley get a basic bank account this seemed a good opertunity until I hung up the phone and have now realised something is not right about it! As I write this I think this could be a scam!!! They said they were from GLOBAL CREDIT CARDS. Has anyone had a similar experience or know who this company is??? I have tried to google them but nothing comes up really!

Thanks :confused::confused::confused::confused:

    So you have given these people your bank account details & card number? If you had been approved for a credit card they wouldn't be phoning you to ask for those details anyway. You need to call your bank fast and get thier advice on what you need to do next because you could have compromised the security of your bank account. Why would they need your security code?

    You really should never disclose your bank details to cold callers - especially if you hadn't even applied for the credit card they were dangling in front of you.

    Never ever EVER give your personal details to ANYONE over the phone if they have PHONED you. Under no circumstances. If it's genuine (from your bank or something) phone them back on a number you already have or can confirm either from the back of your card or from paperwork that's been posted to you.

    If someone calls you and it's not your bank and they want to talk about anything to do with money or involving your private info tell them to F**K OFF. Do it politely if you have to but do it.

    You MUST now get on to your bank and have them cancel that card you've compromised. Yes, you have compromised it and not the scumbags who got it out of you. They could be setting up a continous charge or anything to your card AND account ie new = more charges.

    You'd better discuss it with your bank and make sure you mention your worry about the continuous charge thing and that it was a 'scam'.

    did you get card
  • did you ever get your card? Ive just been through the same thing and cancelled my card - everything you wrote was exactly the same as my experience. Ive found something online about the company and it seems to come across genuine however ive not yet found anyone who actually got their card.....

  • At the risk of sounding rude. Use your loaf. The OP said she couldn't even get a basic bank account, her credit rating was so poor. What makes you think a credit card company would pre-approve her for a £4000 credit card?

    No I never got the card and I didnt cancel my bank card but nothing ever got taken out (not that there would be much to take anyway) and yes Simon maybe we should use our brain a little more but when you get turned down constantly sometimes when one of these companies offer you a glimmer of hope you try to grab it and then realise when its too late! I have however got a credit card from Vanquis who I used to try every 6 months to get an account with them and did this for years, I always got refused but the last time I tried they gave me one (prob got fed up of me asking lol). I started with a £250 limit and now after 3 months of paying in full on time I got a limit increase to £500 So not all is lost and there is light at the end of the tunnel :)

    i have received a phone call from these people today as of time and date of this post
    they stated they are from globalcreditcards.co.uk even gave me the phone number of the company 0703 1874330 ..i have emailed the company to find there position on this as there is nothing stated on there website about credit cards only fund management... i advised the person that i would need time to research the company and verify the details .....they will call back another time..:confused: think this company is just trying to get new credit cards for people with low credit ratings i feel this is not a scam personally but then i would never give any details over the phone unless i start the call and its something i want

    Don't you think you're being stupid involving yourself with people who are spamming your phone?

    Visiting dodgy websites (where most trojans are comingfrom in the last few months) ain't gonna help you either.

    Even if a company has a phone number (mobile especially) doesn't mean they are legit and won't steal your info and abuse it.

    I'm amazed at how loose people are with their privacy.
