I used to have a Navman, but now have a TT1V3 euroland model, and I use it while driving my 44t truck, and it rarely lets me down.

What you have to remember is that they are not perfect, and you only get out what you put in,so set it up properly before you go out with it.

Thanks for all the replies and for the link, Ken - very useful.

Looks like Tomtom 1 it is then - V3 isn't the one that falls off the windscreen is it?.

Just one more thing, can they be used on foot?

    Thanks.

The V3 only falls off if there isn't enough pressure put on the pad,and yes, they can be used on foot as they are battery operated as well as 12v.

I have not got one, but these seem to have good reviews and are very cheap.

  • i never put my tomtom on the screen (its a phone)

having it on the passenger seat is good enough as the audible stuff is fine

My dad on the other hand is a mong when it comes to listening to a sat nav, he obeys it like its law, if you miss a turning so what, it re routes you and nothing major is lost

TomTom maps are no where near as complete and accurate as those Garmin produces.

    From another forum:
The mapping on the TomTom is supplied by a company called tele atlas, they collate theyre mapping buy buying in a base maps from people like goolge maps and then have 7 special GPS vans that map out all of the one way streets, no right turns etc etc. Now Garmins maps are provided by a company called Navteq, now Navteq provide mapping for the MOD so it must beout accurate obviously, although i should point out the mapping used by the army isnt the same that will be on your PND!! Now the way that Navteq collate their mapping is....they DONT buy in a base map and have 700 special GPS vans that drive around the UK mapping out from scratch this is the reason why their maps are alot more accurate.

As an example, my house number 26 built in 1996 is still not on the TomTom maps which stop at number 12 on my road. My road was built in 2 phases, up to number 12 was first phase.
TomTom's routing can be pretty poor sending you miles out of your way with it's too heavy bias to main roads. If Garmin err's it's on the side of using too narrow roads at times. None of them are perfect. TomToms are more user friendly.

If you want spoken street names you need to go up to a Nuvi 265WT

I've got an older Nuvi 310D
Wife has a newer Nuvi 765T

Garmin and Tomtom both have some problems with there mapping ! Sat nav maps are usually 18 months behind the current mapping

Which hasn't helped TomTom get my house in their devices - as of 3 months ago anyway.
Lets hope they get better then, I do like the idea of TomTom iQ routes but wouldn't bother if the maps were not much improved.

Did you go to the teleatlas web site and report the mistake ??
