If you cancel an unused card how long does it take to show on Experion? I've read that you must have something to show that YOU have cancelled the card, not the credit card company, or your credit score could suffer.

It could take a couple of months.
Lenders only update monthly and you might just have missed their run.

All 3 companies (experian, equifax and call credit) offer an expensive service that you can trial for free for a month however note that
    1) You can only do it ONCE on each (they keep records)
    2) You must remember to cancel at the right at the right time or you'll get charged

As it's a limited offer then I suggest you wait a couple of months to allow the admin departments to do their work and the report to get updated.
After that it's £2 a go and take about 7-10 days to arrive in the post (you can do it quicker on line but it's more expensive).

On my credit report, I have closed several cards and accounts that all show up as 'settled'. One was closed by the lender (Burton card) as the balance had been £0 for a few years and was also marked with 'settled'.

I asked Egg to close my card account on 1st February and they still hadn't done it nearly a month later, despite several emails saying they would. They also promised to confirm in writing that it had been cancelled, but they didn't do this either. So it's worth keeping an eye on this and make sure your account really is closed.
