Change a colour photo to black and white?

Anyone know how i can do this?

  • use a free program caled irfanview, open the pic, click image tab then click convewrt to greyscale
  • I saw on a website that a you could make a colour photo black and white but certain parts leave colour. Any of the programmes above do this?

    GIMP would be the mostly likely I should think.

    http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/color-black-white.htm may help
    If you crop an area you want to leave as colour,
    change the rest to B/W paste the colour back in, then most of the above programs will work.
    If you want to keep just a single part in colour (eg red coat in Schindlers list) you would have to manually put colour back into that one area.
    Playing with the hue and saturation on different areas of the picture will let you see the different effects.
    Make sure you keep a master copy, and only change details on a copy so that you can always start again.
