West Coast Road Trip - Who Else Has Done It?

I am 19, me and a couple friends are doing a road trip. We are starting from Vancouver, going to Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Utah. Basically I would like to know if anyone could recommend me some good, but relatively cheap hotels in each of these areas?

I would also like to know if anyone else has done it, and what they did in each place? Thank you people :]

Many people (myself included) have traveled the Western States of USA extensively.

The problem is it is such a vast area and there are so many issues to discuss to regurgitate it all would make this thread a hundred pages or more.

I would kindly advise you to use the search feature on this forum. You will find a wealth of information which will prove invaluable to the planning and experiance of your holiday - for example its not worth visiting Kayenta ;)

If you need clarity or additional information then please come back and post your queries and hopefully they will be answered for you.
  • Not to deflate you, but the car hire costs will be astronomical if you don't have a driver over 25.
    From Poland...with love.

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.

My friend has moved out to Canada, he has insurance and a license, and has his own car now.

Ok, what do you want to know, ive never been further North than San Fransisco but have traveled as far East as Colorado (actually as far as New York - but i doubt you're going that far?)and as South as Mexico.

In which case - go for it!

The only piece of advice I can give you is to stay well away from any Indian reservation areas - these are...well, as far as I know, not very pleasant places to be an 'outsider'.

The only reason to stay away from Indian reservation areas is that the purchase of alcohol is prohibited. Watch their faces as you sit on the bonnet of your car drinking the rats p1ss that is Budweiser (bought elsewhere) whilst the sun sets over Monument Valley.

we would have liked to fit Mexico into the trip, but I don't think we will have enough time.

ive done a few road trips , hotels are easy to find id suggest you just pull off the road and have a look round when your ready to park up for the night

tourist info centers will suggest somewhere in your price range and often have a magazine with cheap places that you can take

just ask to see the room before paying...saves any hassle if its a dump

are they really easy to find though? it's just that it's the first time we have done anything like this, and for peace of mind in some places we would feel a bit more comfortable if we knew we had a place to stay.
