I have had problems with the internet over the last 4 days, using either FF or IE I am having the messages "unable to find google" or the "unavailable website, try again" one.

A few people have told me they are also getting this prob. Anyone know why this is happening please?

Nothing here! Which ISP are you using?

How are you connecting to the internet? Are you using a wireless connection or a wired one?

The first thing to check is that your modem or router is connecting to the internet. Some routers and most modems have indicator lights to let you know if it's connected.

If it's not connected, check your microfilter and contact Talk Talk and ask them to check the line.
  • TalkTalk are a very poor ISP so i wouldnt be supprised if it went down from time to time.

To confirm you are conected to the network then open comand prompt (start, run, cmd in XP and start, then put cmd in the search box) once opne type ping 192.168.2.1 and see if you get a reply, this confirms there is a conection to your router from the machine you are on.

Next try to ping google, using ping https://www.google.com if you dont get a reply then we can put this down to the DNS servers being down or the conection to the Talktalk service being down. to find which is which:

open your browser and typr http://209.85.229.99/ this should open google using its IP and shows that the DNS server is down, if nothing then its a problem with your conection so come abck and we will try to sort it out.

Wonder if it's worth entering the DNS servers direct into the router or NIC setup to see if that's his problem.

    Talk Talk
    Primary DNS server 62.24.199.13
    Secondary DNS server 62.24.199.23

    Alternative DNS Servers:
DNS Primary IP address is 62.24.128.18
DNS Secondary IP address is 62.24.128.17

    Incoming Mail (pop3) server : mail.talktalk.net
Outgoing Mail (smtp) server : smtp.talktalk.net
    Username : emailaddress@talktalk.net
    or : yourphoneno@talktalk.net
To get your username/reset your password phone 0870 0875562
    TT tech support is : 0871 226 7146
See if it makes any difference... not that it should.

Or use a different DNS server, like openDNS - instructions on their website for different routers I believe.

It could be your connection occassionally dropping though, does the message come up for long or does it fix itself after a minute or so?

Thanks guys, I am definitely connected, router green light on all the time :) Its just when I try to go to a site, I get the cannot find, page load error message, I keep clicking on try again and eventually it comes up. Maddening though. Hope mine soon gets sorted too.

Why hope? Don't be so lazy, sort it yourself by using an alternative and much better DNS e.g. here
