Interesting O2 Fact

I have been on an 02 contract for 14mths now (02 200 plan with rollover minutes £30/mth) but, as a low user, ended up just using the minutes for the sake of it and so decided to go PAYG. I phoned 02 to explain my situation and they straight away offered me their 02 25 plan (25mins + 25texts per month inclusive) for £6/mth (ie £10 off their normal charge) PLUS - after a bit of haggling - a new Nokia 5140i handset free of charge. My wife's now using the original phone with PAYG SIM and I'm a lot better off a month! Sorted! I think this isn't a bad deal - can anyone let me know different for next time. Anyway, hope this is useful and saves you money too.

This is a god deal, however there have been people on here who have also received a lump sum credit. This would be used to cover the remainder of their line rental for the minimum 12 month period you have just entered into.

At the end of the day you have still got 25 x-net mins for £6 p/month which isnt bad at all, considering my partners first contract (10 years ago) cost him £40 per month and he only received 30 min same network anytime.

And he had to pay for the housebrick, sorry phone!!!

  • Thanks for your reply Miss G! If you do hear of such a deal and with what network please let me know, I'll pass it on. Cheers!

Its hard to beat Tesco £2.50 for 25 minutes a month cross network anytime too ...
  • Is that an "off the shelf" deal or did you need to haggle for this one?

IMO thats not much of a deal. If you done this deal less than 14 days ago I'd call them and say you want a better deal. (You have 14 days grace to change your mind) Unless your happy with it of course :D

I called 02 retentions earlier this month to go onto PAYG but I got a deal for £15 per month which got me 200 anytime anynetwork minutes and 500 texts. I was offered a phone that I didn't want so got £100 credit instead.

I'd say it helps to look for a good deal online before you call them so you have got something to give them to work with. The deal I found (which I was going to change to if they couldn't match it) was something like 200 anytime minutes and 100 texts. Not only did they match it but bettered it.

I don't know about vodaphone's policies as I'm with 02 but I *think* you should get 2 weeks grace to change your mind. I'd call them back and say you have been thinking about it and aren't happy with what they are offering and want a better deal. I found when I called 02 that its good to have found a better deal online and threaten to change providers if they can't match it. The woman on the phone asked me what deal I'd found so I told her....she bettered it for me.

    good luck and hth

Although you confirmed this deal on the phone I think you should still be covered under the Distance Selling Regulation, as you have not had the chance to look/feel with the product at the time of "purchase" and therefore you have the opportunity to reject the goods.

I agree with Shelly, you should contact Vodafone to try and either get it cancelled or try and get them to match/better the deal!

Although sometimes kids are wrong, in this case it would seem they are correct. (Talking with others (like on here) makes us become more aware of other opportunities out there and thats how we become more savvy when it comes to saving/spending) ;)

Note: Like with any contract (towards the end or end of contract and you want to stay with that company) you should aways try and haggle, but be aware that you might be signing up for another (probably at least) 12months minimum (or whatever minimum term the contract states). You should find a really good deal on the market and then ask the retenetions department to see if they can match or better the deal.
