Recessions means naff all to the material price

The credit crunch may have bitten and people are spending less but the material prices have shot up, compared to this time last year i would estimate my materials from pipe and fittings,to rubble sacks, to timber have gone up approx 20%

On a £3000 budget i would expect a ideal mini 28he, cheapest possible rads and the pipework to be simply rejigged, No cleanser or flush ......No warranty, a cheap and nasty low quality, No more efficient than a BB

    But its only 3k!!!!!!!!!!!

i said 3k over so that leave 4.5k to play with

Thanks for the responses everyone. We decided to go with the original quote as the path of least resistance in allowing our building work to stay on schedule. From your responses it sounds as if we haven't paid way over the top, given our location and specification, although the amount was significantly higher than what we had budgeted for!

Work is mostly done now and to my critical but non-expert eyes seems to have been executed well. We were out of the house for the work, but it seemed to take a plumber and his mate the best part of a week.

A few minor drips around the existing bathroom pipework to sort out, but the house is nice and cosy once more - just in time for the warmer weather :)

Canucklehead - perhaps this should be a separate thread, but do you have any more info on eligibility for the 5yr Remeha guarantee? Our RGI usually fits WB boilers and this is his first Avanta (we wanted weather compensation). The T&Cs with the boiler just mention having the log book correctly filled out, notifying Remeha of the installation and regular servicing. Does the RGI need to be accredited with Remeha in some way to get the full 5yrs?

Good afternoon: Happy to hear you weren't put off;) In regard to the warranty, it depends where your RGI purchased the boiler...if he used HPS Plumbing Supplies then the boiler automatically has a 5 year parts AND labour warranty...don't know what the deal is with other suppliers(no special training is required for the warranty just installation according to manufacturer's specification and completion of the Benchmark log). Your best bet would be to contact Remeha for clarification...no further details on their website. I would imagine the warranty requires an annual service.
Well done on going with the weather compensation ..the OH uses it on Viessmann installs (but it is a tough sell in the UK and best suited to well insulated properties).

Let us know how you get on.
