3 bed CH Replacement in Surrey - £6500 plus VAT?

Our builder's plumber has quoted us the following to replace our 30yr old back-boiler and radiators in our 3 bed house in Guildford

Replace back-boiler with Broag Avanta plus 39c with weather compensation: 3450
Replace existing radiator pipework: 1700
Replace 7 existing rads with Stelrad compacts plus Danfoss TRVs : 1315

Which comes to £6464 or £7433 including VAT !

Boiler is to be located in an attached garage which is where all of the existing services enter the property and only a few metres away from the back-boiler location. Flue, vent and condensate arrangements should be straightforward.

This seems expensive to us but our builder says that we need to factor in Surrey prices. The plumber would like to do the work next week since we have already arranged to be out of the house for a rewire, so I suppose he knows that we are unlikely to get any other quotes before then :(

we're getting a new ch system with worcester greenstar 28i junior cond combi, and 8 rads fitted for £4,250. He's also fitting our new bathroom suite and downstairs cloakroom in that price.

Our first quote from another fitter was over £6k plus VAT. Might pay to shop around.
    We're in Kent.

Good morning: The quote sounds typical for Surrey: BBU to combi conversions are labour intensive and in effect you will have a new central heating system. If you have the right RGI, he/she should be able to offer you a 5 year parts & labour warranty on the Avanta.

Good morning: The Junior is the lowest specification boiler in the WB range with a poor flow rate and poor reviews ...get your RGI to quote for a WB CDi instead (or even a Vaillant 831 or an Avanta as mentioned in the OP's post ;))

my BBU to combi conversion took 2 days labour, one man.
not exactly 5 grands worth of labour even in leafy surrey.

Take another look at the OP's post....he/she will end up with a new central heating system. What was the spec. of your install for benefit of other MSErs? Two day/one man conversion. The figure quoted by the OP is in the ball park of the going rate in this part of the world..of course my comments are based on first hand experience over many years... in Surrey. A RGI, after conducting site survey would be best placed to advise as to cost and specification.

replacing 7 rads with the associated pipework does not cost the same as a decent used car.
    even in surrey.

What some folks down south in Surrey consider decent used cars ... the definition varies I suppose . The CH price quoted by the OP is the reality.

Recessions means naff all to the material price

The credit crunch may have bitten and people are spending less but the material prices have shot up, compared to this time last year i would estimate my materials from pipe and fittings,to rubble sacks, to timber have gone up approx 20%

On a £3000 budget i would expect a ideal mini 28he, cheapest possible rads and the pipework to be simply rejigged, No cleanser or flush ......No warranty, a cheap and nasty low quality, No more efficient than a BB

    But its only 3k!!!!!!!!!!!
