Thankyou for all your comments. The 2 ladies (our mums) were stationed in Malta when they were both in the WRNS. One of them is unable to fly. They both still have all their mental faculties and we want to give them one of those things to do before you die, they are both very pleased to be given the opportunity to go back there. We are both very able to look after them and want to make their journey as pleasurable as we can, so appreciate the link that was posted.0

I don't have time to reply just now, but I will - 'karenb9911', if I don't reply to this by tomorrow night, feel free to PM me and I'll make sure to give you some information.
The RailEurope suggestion was a great one though - either RailEurope (which is ran by SNCF, the French rail company) or Deutsche Bahn UK will be very very good for you. There's also a small one at http://www.festtravel.co.uk/ - who are said to provide almost unbelievable customer service. From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -
It's a while since I travelled by train in Italy but I remember some of the trains being double deckers with steps down and up - definitely worth finding someone who can help by translating things for you.
I don't think this website will answer your problems but it might help a bitEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Karenb,
just to say that your trip sounds like a great adventure, I'm sure the ladies will love it.
Theres a website http://www.seat61.com/Malta.htm . Its basically a site which tells you the best train travel to various destinations and is very useful for anyone planning a train trip.
Had a quick look and not much disabled access mentioned though.
Hope you all have a great time0
