Laptop screen problem - help please

The screen on my daughters' Acer laptop has been playing up. If she holds it in certain place it some times works but not always. I've been quoted at least £150 to replace the screen but this a bit expensive. Has anyone any experience of replacing a screen either DIY or repair shop.

Any advice gratefully received.

Presumably you've tried a quick google?

This is about halfway down on the first page...

No idea if it's right or not :) There's various other vids there as well.

I've done various swap-outs over the years but haven't worked on Acer.

This shows you how to do it But I don't know where you would get the screen from or how much it would cost

Screens aren't cheap - £150 sounds about right, although it can be cheaper to buy a broken laptop (with a working screen) and swap it over.

(running on an HP nx7400 with an nx8200 screen atm)
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

OP doesn't say what sort of HP he's got, but, as an example...

    Hi All

Thanks for all your help. It's an Aspire 3630.

Hubby seems to think there might be loose wire/connection as it sometimes works when you press the top left hand side of the screen. He's keen to open it up somehow and take a look  . Daughter doesn't want to lose all her uni work.

    Pj

Just been watching the youtube, thanks for the link. When the technician takes the screen off I can see a cable running from bottom rh side up to top left. Its the top left hand side she presses. So maybe she doesn't need a new screen at all but needs a new connector.

As you say, it sounds like the screens working but the connection is squiffy. If that's the case it should be possible to push the connector together and see if that does anything.
Er.... I assume she's backed her Uni stuff up, hasn't she???

    Anyhoooo.. this might be it.

This might be the inverter board thats on its way out or loose connection .Can you still see the screen but its very dark ?

Inverter boards are cheaper than the screens , these are located at the bottom of the screen .

It's not ideal but even if the screen fails, it should be possible to use the laptop with a normal monitor. This will enable your daughter to carry on with her uni work.

Laptop screens are very susceptible to damage especially in the corners. The damage can often be caused by something getting caught between the screen and the keyboard eg a pen. If this is the case, it may well be covered by your house insurance.
