Thanks for all the replies!
MancBrel - You said hope you dont expect to much from the Steeplechase enclosure? All Im hoping is to be able to see some of the racing, place a few bets and few drinks really, is it really basic is it? Thanks for the tip too!!
LondonDiva - I was thinking of doing this, but if there gonna search you twice
!!
mattarmy - If it's £3 for a beer then it's not so bad, been too some events and they charge £4 +!!
You will be watching most of the action on the big screens. Some races will not pass your area, but the National itself does (twice). It's the bit on the slope just after they start racing and turn into the course. You usually can "transfer up" and cross the course, but do as I suggest after the big race is over and you will be able to just walk through without and get away with a freebie upgrade for the rest of the card.
Sometimes I pay for Club etc, but there are courses where I wouldn't bother. I tend to find that if you look the part and have a slight air of arrogance, it opens doors! There is a course in the UK (I won't name it) where I get in as a studet (I'm 40 this year) and then walk straight through into the premier enclosure. I do this several times a year, without any hassle.
By the way, I think its just over £3 a pint now. John Smiths (obviously) and Fosters from memory?
Best of luck!0 -
On the subject of drinks at the races. Try York races in the summer. They do bottles of champagne for about £30! You can't complain at those prices at such a premier racecourse? I once sneaked a bottle in and couldn't believe my eyes when I looked at the price they were selling it for! Full sized bottles.0
