I would push for a goodwill payment, they screwed up and need to say sorry - pretty simple to me.
Ive had issues with my visa bank card when shopping in sainsburys they reserve double the amount ie I spend £50 they with hold £100 and say it will be returned in 5-10days time and its sainsburys fault as they use a 6 digit auth code and FD only use 4 - all transactions are put through on 6 !! I think they think Im stupid0 -

That explanation doesn't even make the slightest bit of sense. Auth codes are 6 digits. All auth codes are 6 digits. (I've never had any issues using my FD card in Sainsbury's, but that's just me).0 -
I kind of agree with you re last post.
BUT..
All auth codes are not six digits. It depends on which bank the merchant banks with. There is still a few banks that authorise card payments uniquely (sp!)0 -

Yes I know all auth codes are 6 digits, FD are telling me they send the auths on 4 digits the company then claim them on 6 - 00 infront which then confuses their system, they pay one out and then hold the funds awaiting the original 4 digits they gave out.0
