First Direct problem money has been sent out of my account i did not authorise

Basically they have sent 3 extra payments of council tax out of my account not authorised. I set up the standing order for 10 payments. I amended the date in October and they started the payments from scratch. To cut a long story short they have admitted the error was theirs and it was done incorrectly by a member of staff. I have no problem with human error it happens. The problem I do have is that they say sorry and I ask what compensation they will pay after all they charge us if overdrawn. They say because I suffered no financial loss they will not give me anything. Does this seem fair?? Anything I can do?

    Provided that
    (1) you suffered no financial (or other) loss from this event,
    AND
    (2) they resolved the problem quickly and with as little inconvenience to you as possible

then I think compensation is a little over the top. Possibly, at most, £5-£10 as 'goodwill', but any more than that would be excessive.

Interesting reading this post - this was exactly one of the reasons that I left first direct - when you set up a standing order it's not automated like all other banks, it has to go to a member of staff who enter it manually. Apparently FD are not working with 21st century computer systems.
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

with respect if the OP has had to spend time and make phone calls chasing this one up then he/she HAS suffered a financial loss...and as s/he says they charge customers pretty sharpish if they go overdrawn...

Firstly I found out the error they did not so they did not correct anything. How would you feel if £300 had come out of your account would that be OK to you if they said sorry??? what about trust ??

Because of a simple error which they corrected once you informed them? Yes.

    Don't trust them anymore? Leave.

You haven't lost any money in the process therefore why do you deserve anything?

You don't know he has been on the phone and spent hours and hours correcting the problem. For all you know it was an internal message that took 30 seconds to write.

Stop playing this silly game and just answer the simple question, "what are you expecting from the bank"?

I would push for a goodwill payment from them.

If I mis-calculate and make a mistake with my bank account, my bank charges me around £35 for doing so.

They cannot have everything on their terms all of the time! Good luck...
