Personally I think the cup measurement in cookery is the simplest of all.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

Yep, do not be afraid of cups. One cup equals 8 fluid ounces.
How about Flaky Cheese Biscuits?
4oz butter
4oz grated cheddar
1 egg yolk
pinch of salt
1/2 tsp paprika
4 oz plain flour
Cream butter till fluffy. Gradually beat in the cheese, egg, salt and paprika. Fold in the sifted flour. Chill it in the fridge for an hour. Knead it for a few minutes, then roll out out to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into 1 inch-ish circles and put onto greased baking sheet. Bake for 10 mins at 220C/425F/Gas mark 70 -

I like this recipe for oatmeal biscuits from the Be-Ro book. It's very simple and is lovely with cheese.
I hate cup measurements too. I have a set of measuring cups and several American cookbooks that use them, but I just can't see why anyone would prefer that to standing a bowl on a set of scales and chucking everything in. It's much less messy, and things like "half a cup plus two tablespoons" are just a bit silly really.0 -
Good morning
I wonder if someone could point me in the right direction for some recipes for plain/savoury biscuits.
I'm trying to cut down on the amount of bread we go through, and would like to make some biscuits I could use with cheese etc
Many thankis0 -
Thanks for these - I agree about just adding to a bowl on scales, especially when you can zero after each addition so you don't even have to add up.
Aren't the cup measurements different for different ingredients? This is what has always confused me.0 -
Well, of course the weight will be different depending on the density of the ingredients but a cup is a cup. It's based on a ratio so I've used a teacup instead of a breakfast mug when it's taken my fancy. Nothing bad has ever happened. You just shouldn't mix volume and weight in the same recipe.0

Any more cracker type recipes?? I'm looking for something that can replace Ryvita/cream crackers/Ritz type biscuits?? I know they are cheap to buy but more concerned about what goes in shop bought stuff..
I thought they'd be something in one of my cook books but they seem a bit lacking in this area!0
