AOL - is this a good deal?

I've been with AOL since 2001. My latest contract just came to an end and I thought I would switch to BT, but then after taking a look on their site it seems pretty expensive since we want unlimited downloads.
I phoned AOL and asked for my MAC code and they said that if I sticked with them they would reduce my monthly payment down from £17.99 to £15.99 and keep me with unlimited downloads, up to 8mbps speed and free local/national telephone calls. Plus a brand new wireless router. BUT this starts up a new 12 month contract.
My house is a long way from the exchange so the speed we can get here is crap....so not too bothered about that. We just need the unlimited downloads.
What do people think? Should I look elsewhere/pester them for a better deal or is this pretty good?
Thanks

Ring them back and tell them you'll go for it if they throw in the free ASUS laptop they are offering brand new customers. It worked for me last year, but I had to sign up for another 2 years.
Check the Carphone Warehouse broadband site for details (they sell AOL now).
AOL are rubbish so you may as well get as much from them as you can.0 -

you will see that I am, together with others are only paying £6.99 pm for all this:
How much are/were you paying?
I had been on £9.99 pm for some two years.
Now I'll be paying £6.99 pm.
I got a router and will be on AOL talk phone.
The package will be free unlimited calls (01/02/03/08).
I also pay BT direct with line rental.
See if you can get that deal.0 -
Is that with unlimited downloads? Awesome deal if so, I will be ringing them right away.If you read this (post no: 5) which I posted here:

There are many companies out there that will supply the same speeds as AOHell without cappping the lines.
Ever since CPW took them over, AOHell have gone from bad to worse.
They make SKY support look proficient and professional......how scary is that?0 -
