For not much more than that, you can buy a really good tree from an established nursery and know exactly what rootstock and type you are getting. You are keeping a tree for a long time, it makes sense to buy a good one.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

I agree. The ones that were a fiver, fair enough, but £10 isn't far off a good one. You can get family trees, which are perfect for small gardens for not much more.0

I am dissappointed, as i bought my cherry tree from aldi a couple of weeks ago, it is 4ft tall and only cost 4.12!! So this is too steep.
Oh well hopefully more will appear at Aldi soon.Leopardlady

I've done the same and indeed I hope the same as wellOld saying is "pears for your heirs"
Hope it is not strictly true as i have planted a Lidl pear tree this year and hope to at least taste one before I shuffle off
When I was very young we had a huge pear tree in the garden and most of the fruit went to waste every year. We took that tree totally for granted, I wish I had that in my garden now :rolleyes:Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
hi i have planted over 30 aldies and lidls trees over 5 years as i wanted an orchard and did not have much funds so these were cheap and cheerful, several of the trees fruited the year after a got them two even had a couple of apples in the first year. the trees i planted 4 years ago are now mostly over 6ft and smothered in buds about to open even the peach trees so you do not have to wait to long0

On the Mr Fothergills website Gardners world offers they have an offer for 3 trees apple, pear and plum grown on M27 (dwarfing) rootstock for £34, so with the 10% discount code elsewhere they come to not much more then these trees with the fact that you know what rootstock they are on
Add the free strawberry plants as well and bargain!0
