I just tried and it said I can't because I'm a new user.
Is a new user based on number of posts or time I've been a member? I hope it's not number of posts as it would encourage to spam and defeat the object of the rule!

Well said.
We did point out the flaws in the plan but nobody listens to people who know what they are talking about around here0 -
Ah well, I'll have to start spamming!0
-
Also, could this be added to the FAQ?
I don't think spammers would go to the trouble of looking in there.0 -
Good idea adding to FAQ its only just recently been added
One point about spammers will just post a lot before they are able to add links.
Spammers have in the past done this by posting pointless comments to advertise there sig. They soon get removed, so I assume it will be the case if its picked up on new posters ie for example "great, thanks for this" or "nice, many thanks" etc etc
You can thank the spammers who unfortunately until last week were ruining the forums over recent weeks0 -
Just found this discussion as I'm having the same problem. I've been mainly lurking on the competitions board, but would now like to do my bit to post for other MSE users. However, I can't post links, and on the Comps board, there have to be links to the competitions! So I now just have to post lots of links saying "thanks" or "well done" to get my post count up?
I can't even post links to other pages on the forums.0 -
It's a case of the minority spoiling things for the majority, I'm afraid.0

TBH, I don't think you have to have many posts before you can add links. Half an hour in The Arms or Discussion Time should sort it ... :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0

so is the exact number of required posts a matter of national security or doesn't anyone know :huh:0

I presume the MSE team don't want to give spammers a precise idea on how to get round the restrictions.
Just contribute to the forum/moneysaving/chat and I'm sure they will work in no time.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

It doesn't chage the fact that it is an extremely bad way of implementing something to stop spammers when there are pleanty of other ways of doing it. Lots of suggestions have been given by people who work with vBulletin day in day out, but they have all been ignored.
Many people join the site purely to share something they have found with a link. There will be none of that anymore with this system.0
