Does this sound too cheap?

In my local paper for a couple of weeks theres been an advert placed by a local hotel for a wedding special. It consists of the following:-

3 course sit down meal
wine with meal
bubbly for speeches
master of ceremonies
colour co-ordinated linen
table centre candelabras
traditional two teir cake with stand and knife
complimentary honeymoon suite
free use of banqueting suite for evening party for up to 150 people.
£14.99 per person so if you have 50 guests for the meal and 150 for evening party this will cost less than £750.

There usual menu for meal starts at £29.95 and then every thing else is 'extra'. To those who have had there weddings or are in teh proces of doing so so these prices sound too good to be true?

I do not have a budget in mind for the day as we still have not set dates but if the above is a really good deal we are prepared to marry around the deals available dates iyswim as we are not restricted by work/family commitments.

All replies will be greatful.

It is cheap. Would be worth enquiring about and getting all the info. Could it be that it only applies to midweek weddings?

I suggest popping around to the venue and having a look and even be cheeky and ask to taste the wine, see the linen, have a look at the honeymoon suite etc.
In the current eco climate, they may be trying to fill their bookings. Other than that, it may be a dump.
I recently had a mothers day 3 course meal for £12.00. It was exceptional.

To be honest this is an area where i am at a loss for information.

I have drawn up a list of questions for OH to throw at the designated person in charge of making the bookings when she is on her shift tomorrow. I am not sure from the very little wording shown in the advert whether or not this offer only applies if you have the ceremony in situ as they do have a licence for this or if the evening party still requires you to sort out food and entertainment.

As many possible questions to ask would also be advantagous as then i will have a clearer picture.

No real need to check out venue etc as it is only a stones throw a way from the house and a few years ago OH worked there so knows the quality of foods etc and what the accomodation will be like.

This offer is quoted as being selected dates through 2009/2010. So we can be as flexible as necessary if this an outstanding deal.

It is probably that price because they are the dates no one wants? Hidden extras? Cheaper menu? I would definately enquire though and ask as many questions as possible.

Even if it sounds too good to be true, it's worth looking into - even if just to find out if/what the catch is.

You never know - there might not be a catch, it could just be a really good deal.

As Louise has said there might not be a catch at all - they are trying to do what a lot of venues are starting to do is to offer more for less as a way of getting customers through the door.

Hi there, we’re getting married in June 2010 and we’ve booked a package similar to that one. But, the “offer” is only available for Friday weddings and it’s for 50 guests, the total? 3k.
This includes everything that you mentioned above, but I also had to pay an additional £400 for the ceremony room.
We are getting married in St. Albans, which is quite near to London, so maybe that’s why the MASSIVE price difference.

    Good luck xxx

I would still check it out. A lot can change in 12 months.....especially if there have been staff changes!

Is it a Holiday Inn by any chance? I know they sometimes do special "bundle" deals like this....

No its not a Holiday INN it is a Castle hotel situated within a castle grounds. OH also had to go there recently to sign for a cheque to do with wages being messed around when he were working for local council - along with quite a few others, and he commented then how nice it all looked.
