You would probably do better with Firefox.

i know people keep recomending other browsers but i tend to prefer to stick to what i know. i have only ever been on a different kind of browser once before and i hated it. anway if i have an internet explorer i should get updates from microsoft when available. i am surprised i dont get updated to version 8 through the update function now.

Yes, it should be, here's a description of the two main security features added.

Personally ive no intentions of touching it until ive seen everyone else be the guinea pigs (And id hazard a guess it will take a couple of months for all the initial security holes to become apparant)

  • I'd wait until all the security flaws are found and fixed and use an updated IE7 or Firefox in the meantime.

I bet every "hacker" is trying to find the vunerabilities in IE8 right now, it's what they do!

Hi, I would wait a while before making the change. Microsoft new releases are invariably filled with bugs and security flaws so for the time being you are better off sticking to the 'proven' version 7.

I would also recommend you try the free firefox browser. IE 7 was really a copy of firefox and in my opinion a poor copy. If you like fast, reliable secure browsing then certainly give firefox a try. If you prefer all the 'bells & whistles' (or superfluous stuff according to one's opinion) and application integration then stick with IE.
  • As long as your computer is set to receive automatic updates, you'll get IE8 automatically anyway at some point.

It'll be worth the upgrade for security purposes so it can only be a good thing to upgrade, whether you do it manually or wait for windows update.

Its NOT always a good idea to upgrade, unless you want to ensure you always have the slowest, most bloated application available. And as soon as microsoft bring out a new version it's a great new challenge to all the hackers and exploiters out there, making it potentially LESS secure in the short term
