The standard PhotoViewer (I think it's called) that's built into XP should be fine.

If that's not installed or working, look up an app called IRfanView. Great app, I use it instead of the above. Light on resources and it can view almost anything.

I guess I haven't got it installed (I'm not very computer-wise as you may guess). Will have a go at installing IRfanview as you suggest. Thanks

They may be embedded into the email and also do you mean that the
save attatchments area is greyed out if so..

Open Outlook Express, Tools Options, Security Tab, Take Out Tick of,
Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened, then Ok

Hi intel - I can get as far as the Security Tab but can't find Take Out Tab
:( I forgot to mention that I'm using Windows XP Professional, does this make a difference? :embarasse

May be a red herring anyway because I have that box checked here and it does not prevent jpg & gif files from being displayed or saved.

Have you detached these images from the e-mail to a directory of your choice on your PC?

    ;)
 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:

Hi guys - just sussed that the email address was not on my Safe Sender/Recipient list, :rolleyes2 :embarasse - think I'll slink off quietly now.
The up-side is that I learn a little bit more after asking ;)

On the same topic, I got a new PC at Xmas. Runs XP Home, is a Pentium4 3.2, has Windows Picture Viewer - but will not allow me to open Jpeg attachments in e-mails. I've never had a problem with this on other machines - any ideas? The Error message I get is: 'This file does not have a programme associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options Control Panel'. Where the $%**& is that??
I only exist in my own mind - if you can see, hear or read me, you are a product of my imagination.

Save the image to the desktop.

Right click on it, you should have an "Open With" option, if not click away from it, then right click on it again holding the Shift key.

In the Open With section select, "Choose Program". A window should appear, find Picture Viewer, and tick the box to make it always open with that application.

I don't know of anyway of getting Picture Viewer to assign itself to all image associations, anyone?

Or instead of the above just install IRFanView, it's free and better (IMHO) than Picture Viewer. It can view virtually anything.
