    Caveat Emptor

You are absolutely right purch ! A lesson for us all.

Before buying any corporate bond have the vendor/banker set out ALL the risks clearly and succinctly over the phone and request and have confirmed that the telephone call record be kept for a minimum of 6 months before deletion. In that way should any risk be omitted or
concealed, whether through negligence or fraud , the 'emptor' could have the deal unwound if dealing with a respectable known institution .

[All banks nowadays record telephone calls to/from clients esp those involving share /bond deals ]

I only joined a few days ago in disgust at utility company practises. Already i see a wealth of info regarding other matters. I am impressed with this thread because i am i imagine one of many who are facing changes similar to the OP. I ahve been trying to plan the remaining years in a similar fashion and applying the advice to my situation.
Although i am financially secure now,i am concerned that so many things happening will alter this, and am trying to put things in place as best i can. I am 60, married, retired early with no pension, but over 700k in cash, and 2 rental incomes in uk. I partly use rental income to live on, no mortgage, and live as simple life as kids and grandkids will permit. What financial steps would you suggest.
