This doom mongering is group hysteria. We are not in a world war, the pandemic bird flu has not taken hold, martians are not invading and the food distribution system has not collapsed.
Mmm and, just for the record, we haven't all been extinguished by Aids, mad cow disease or rampant antibiotic resistant infections either....
... and the public sector are still paying their employees' exorbitantly high salaries despite having lost millions in icelandic banks .... oh oh, hang on, better not get carried away on that one. :rolleyes:0 -

I'm quite alone here, apart from the animals and they are calm, but I'm stocktaking my tins with a panic driven fervour.
OK, not yet, but I did overstock on tins this week. I felt ridiculous but sort of safe too. I wonder how long I cn eek out three tins of tuna between us all.

if it really came to a situation of living off tin stocks, you'll also need an AK47 to keep out the looters. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

But there is some point in trying to plan for it.
this is an interesting psychological and philosophical question.
i'm not sure you can really plan for the future.
you can take actions to put yourself in the best situation for what you think the future may hold. but as you don't really know what that is, you are basically just picking numbers for a lottery that hasn't been called yet.
you can set up a pension fund. if global finances go awry, economic collapse etc, you might have been better doing survival training.
you can buy antivirals to protect against bird flu. then you get struck with e-coli.
it is all just probability. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
Well..er.. I was more thinking along the lines of putting a few spare quid in a Post Office account.
But if you want to talk philosophy I'll go and get a dictionary.

This chap seems to know the cure to the problem but I bet non of our politicians would have the bottle to take his advice.
