yes i have the fan plugged in, it will spin if i take the jpw1 connector out, but if i have the 4 pin connector in the jpw1 socket it wont turn on AT ALL. no beeps if i turn it on with the jpw1 connector out, which makes sense as the processor wont have any power. but the pc wont turn on at al with this 4 pin socket in :(

the pc will not turn on with the 4 pin 12v connector in the jpw1 socket. if i take it out the fan spins, the cd drives open. but there is no posting for obvious reasons. the processor isnt getting any power with out this socket. but the fan judders for like a second with this cable in. anyone got any ideas how to get the pc to turn on with the jpw1 socket in becuase ive cleaned it done an out of case attempt to check for shorting. kinda loosing hope :(

take out the CPU...re-seat it and try again (unless you have access to another system to try it in?)

Your m/board may have failed - try freecycle for a 478 board.
The m/bo you list doesn't seem to exist on the msi site.
On ebay there are twice as many 478 m/b's as current 775 m/b's as people give up on your level of pc. I would think very hard about what to spend money on next.

its an 865G neo2 psl board, sorry for not putting the full thing on, i didnt see it all properly. but i think the board probally has gone. i got it at a carboot for next to nothing so its no loss, but its just a shame as i had it up and running with a poorer hardrive. must of got damaged during me rearranging. thanks for all your help though. i only started doing this a week ago but i feel like ive learnt alot already.

Caused by static I reckon... You must always earth yourself before touching any component.

You'll probably find there's a logic fault in the board caused by bending and the fella that sold it KNEW it was faulty. M/B's are pretty resiliant but, like any multilayer PCB, if they're bent the tracks can seperate and short and sometimes they'll work... and sometimes they won't... or, as others have said, it's been 'nuked'.

That board still seems to be listed as current so there's probaby a reason someone's selling it for 'next to nothing' at a car boot sale.
