Car is over fueling

DH bought his 1st car back in October a few days after he had it, he had problems with it cutting out whilst driving and wouldnt start. Also noticed it was doing half the mpg as it is suppose to do.

Anyway the garage gave 3 months warranty and said it was the battery so changed it, after bump starting him for a week!

This didnt solve it so the garage who they have a contract with to do their repairs took it in couldnt find a fault, Had it 3 times even put it on a diagnostics machine apparently!

After 2 months I got fed up and told them to keep the car for a few days drive it and see for themselves! They said it was overfuelling and needed a new throttle body. They had it a week as was awaiting the parts.

2 weeks later it started happning again so I rang them and they said we put engine coolant in it and didnt change the throttle body as the engine was reading the temp wrong which made it use more fuel.

Now when they orignally said they were replacing the throttle body the garage we bought it off said yes fine whatever it takes and if it not right well fix it as you told us inside the warranty.

Now they are saying the throttle body isnt covered under the warranty and checking my warranty it isnt listed there, But why would they agree to this a few weeks ago?

Its back in the same garage and I know its going to come back the same! They said they wont send it anywhere else as they have paid the garage so many times to repair it and its so far out of warranty  3 weeks out!

Does anyone know what my legal rights are?

Has anyone experienced overfueling and / or know what can put it right?

electronic control unit. its basically the cars brain. certain parameters can be adjusted to achieve faster acceleration, top speed, etc...

but this is usually done on modern diesels, i doubt anyone would bother doing it to a 206 petrol.

  • EGR Valve failure? Had a similar problem with Vauxhall Vectra where it kept cutting out etc and turned out to be EGR valve......had it replaced 8 times as they were being contaminated by oil from wrong size pistons.
  • *wonders if it has been drinking Tesco contaminated petrol*

no ive never bought petrol from tesco.

the garage have gave it back to me today and said they cant find anything wrong with it! 4 times they had it and told me the same then they said it was overfueling and had put engine coolant in it now they say nothing is wrong even though its acting the same!

The Tesco petrol problem was well before October of last year.

Engine coolant has nothing to do with over-fuelling. Try another garage.
