well my first proper order (not just samples) arrived last week and I'm really happy with it, came really fast, well packaged and with a nice generous smattering of freebies on top on top of the free sample pack I'd also ordered! The eyeshadow is nice for anyone considering it...
I did get hit with customs charges etc. but I'd costed it into the price of the stuff as I ordered it and it was still a good deal for what I got. I did spent a lot of time messing around with a calculator working out what gave you the best deal (ordering in bulk or not) and this is the conclusion I came to:
1. if you're only ordering one or maybe two items that fall below customs charges, obviously don't worry about it
2. if you're total goes over the customs charges boundary then assume you will have to pay (it will just make it extra nice if you don't) and divide up the customs duty of about $20 (NOTE: I've transferred it to $ to put it inline with the makeup costs and use an approx figure) between the other items - you will obviously see it is better to order more stuff so the customs charge is spread further
3. to work out if a custom kit is worth getting there are two things to do. Firstly write down all you definately want to buy
a) if the total is over the total for a kit e.g. $34 dollars for the smaller one and all the items you are getting could go into the kit (most do) then obv go for the kit - anything else you are getting is free
b) you can also check the value of the kit in a money saving sense by working out the average cost per item in the kit:
kit average (for small kit) = kit price ($34)
+ postage (say $10)
+ customs (say $20)
which adds up to $64 then divide by 6 = $ 10
so you are making a saving if you order something over $10 e.g. foundation but not really if you just order loads of the lipglosses
The even larger kit produces even larger savings...
...but only if you're going to use the stuff!!
To make up my total I ordered brushes to give as presents. Obviously giving people the right shade of foundation is tricky but the blushes, bronzers and finishing powders would also make great gifts.
As for application - sorry I'm really going on here - I've found you really do need a good quality dense brush (kabuki brushes are good) to really hold the powder. The one's off the everyday minerals site are amazing and good value. It's worth paying for good brushes as they do last, I've had one of mine for 6years now. I use two, one for foundation and finishing/priming powders and one for darker blushes and bronzers but if you can only stretch to one then it's ok, any residual blush/bronzer on the brush next time you come to use your foundation adds a lovely glow to your skin! I've also got a traditional flat foundation brush (from superdrug) which is great for areas you need more precision such as under the eyes or where you want more coverage. Honestly I'm rubbish at applying make up and if I can get this sorted then anyone can
Overall I'm really happy with the company, and the samples in pots really do go a long way - it's a great way to experiment with different colours etc. without filling your make up bag with full sized products that you only use twice because then Vogue is telling us all to wear coral not pale pink blusherThey're also a hygenic way of using makeup as you never actually need to touch it so I've had no issues with passing on any shades that don't suit me to friends and family so nothing is wasted.
Am giving the other two websites with samples (posted above) a try. So far I'm not liking the websites as much as everyday minerals, the price is higher and I've about given up on the Joppa minerals site as it keeps refusing to put my order through!

Mine arrived this morning and I'm really pleased with the samples. Luckily for me, the colours that I chose are spot-on!
Has anyone ordered more than one lot of samples? I'm interested in getting some more for my mum and sister. Not only that, but there's one or two (OK, more like 10) eyeshadows that I'm thinking of getting too!
Thanks again to the original poster0 -
I have ordered 2 lots of samples - so far apart that I forgot about the first lot! However, I've seen that others here have ordered several lots of samples one after the other, there doesn't seem to be a restriction.

Just to say thanks to the OP for this hook up. Been a lurker since last week Friday when I placed my samples order with EDM. Samples were sent out Monday this week & I received them this morn. Also ordered some eye shadow & brushes too & am thrilled with it all. The pots are bigger by far than what most MMU companies provide. Happy with the lot & looking to order a super custom kit soon. However, still waiting for samples from Joppa & Signature Minerlas first (links provided on previous page). Ordered off them on Wednesday, yesterday they both sent me emails to say samples had been shipped. Also ordered samples from two other companies that supply MMU specifically for women of colour. So expecting another 4 samples soon. Thanks OP! :T0

just try the samples on now I'm impressed with eyeshadow. Normally cheap stuff doesn't do it for me. I texture of eyeshadow & colours are great too. Still have slight problem with foundation that I don't know maybe it's my application technique I seem to used quite alot to get the coverage maybe I should order different formula to try (I use original glow) but it seems to give lovely glow after a while (not the moment u put makeup on) I ordered from Signature MMU too still waiting for samples

Does signature minerals asks you to pay before requesting your address? I thought that was weird.... anyway, has anyone received such samples? Are they any good? what about joppa? do they come in pots or just bags? Thanks!!!0
