Would it be more beneficial for me to change to BG Websaver 2?
I'm currently on click 4 for elec and click 6 for gas. I live in the Yorkshire region?

Thanks

    Hi,

    It is most likely that you will get a good saving by changing to Websaver2 for Gas - it's the best gas tariff around at the moment.

    Can't comment of Click4 electricity but if you try the comparison site and try the mix of Click4 electric & Websaver2 gas and see what it says for current tariff costs then do the same for Click4 electric & Click6 gas. See which one gives you the best deal - I don't think the comparison sites include the £15 dual fuel discount (which they should).

    It does depend a lot on what your consumption is though. I am currently on Click 6 electric & Websaver2 gas so I've done something similar already and saved a decent amount.

    Not 100% true as it depends very much on usage figures. Websaver2 is optimised for 'average' consumption of 20500kwhs per year, for instance. Gas usage figures either side of that figure that bring up very different results (certainly in my Yorkshire region). Plus don't forget Websaver2 has an exit fee.

    With regard to electrcity there are far cheaper deals out there. To the OP, why not ring BG and get your annual usage figures then hit the switching sites? Remember it's entirely possible to get a better deal by using different companies for gas and electric and that's taking into account the loss of Dual fuel discount..

    This was posted in another thread:
    The usual 3,300kWh electric, 20,500kWh gas(Midlands) - payment by DD

    So let us consider people who went on to a BG internet tariff and stayed there and see what they would be paying now.

    BG Click 1 = £1,139.84

    BG Click 2 = £1,103.86

    BG Click 3 = £1,103.86

    BG Click 4 = £1,070.55

    BG Click 5 = £1,095.32

    BG Click 6 = £1,035.53

    Websaver1 = £1,038.33

    Websaver2 = £1,047.81

    As indicated above you would need to see if changing one of the services, to Websaver or another company, would give you a cheaper tariff bearing in mind your area and consumption.

    My guess is that there won't be a great deal in it either way.

    Hi

    I am currently on Click Energy 6 for both gas and electricity. I have just checked on the BG website and discovered I could save if I switched my gas only to Websaver2. My question is if I did that and moved house before 31/12/09, and did not use BG in my new address, would I still be liable for the £30 penalty of cancelling the account? Thanks.

    1Carminestocky is quite right. You have to run your consumption (in kWh) through the comparison website to get an accurate picture for yourself.

    But in general, Click4 is pretty good for electricity and Websaver2 is pretty good for gas.

    A quick look at a comparison website – For your current Click6/Click4 tariffs in the Yorkshire area and using the industry standard usage models of High user, Medium User and Low User for both gas and electricity, you get:

    Low User: Dual Fuel Npower is the cheapest at a saving of £62 (but note you only get the discount at the end of each 12 months and lose it if you leave early). Ebico, Southern Electric and Websaver2 follow at savings between £16 and £8)
    Medium User: Dual fuel Websaver2 is cheapest giving a saving of £31.
    High User: Dual fuel E.ON Fixonline is cheapest giving a saving of £57, followed by : Dual fuel EDFenergy Online6 giving a saving of £43, followed by Dual fuel Websaver2 giving a saving of £25.

    You probably have to deduct £15 from the savings as the website doesn’t account for the Dual Fuel discount you get with your current tariffs.

    However, if you do a similar switch as you did before and go for Websaver2 gas only, your Websaver2/Click4 tariff mix would give you:

    Low User: Dual Fuel Npower remains cheaper but only at a saving of £39 (or £24 when adjusted) and the same condition applies as above. ALL other tariffs are more expensive. This is about £22 cheaper than your current mix.
    Medium User: ALL tariffs are more expensive than the proposed mix. This is about £41 cheaper than your current mix.
    High User: ALL tariffs are more expensive than the proposed mix, when you factor in the Dual Fuel discount (even when you don’t, only E.ON fixonline is cheaper but only by£2!). This is about £55 cheaper than your current mix.

    Warning: you are highly unlikely to match any of the industry standard models and may even be High electricity and Low gas or any other variant – so you must do the comparisons yourself.

    Apart from anything else, you can switch to Wesaver2 within 2 days of applying online at the BG website - rather than the month or three it takes to switch supplier – thereby gaining savings almost immediately.

    And yes there is a £30 cancellation fee for Websaver2 if you cancel before the end of this year. Only you can judge if you may be likely to or whether it matters. Other suppliers also have cancellation fees, including Npower’s slightly hidden one.

    NADIA: The cancellation fee does NOT apply if you are moving house – it’s in the BG terms&condition for Websaver2.
