Curry Queen- I've seen courgettes cooked in cakes before now. Along similar lines to carrot cake. Shhh....I won't tell them if you don't!! :rotfl:

if you do a google search for zuchini bread you'll find loads, my mom used to make it a lot and it's very nice. it adds moisture and texture to loaf style breads (cakey types) or you can make muffins. you can't taste the courgette at all, honest!

i don't make it here because courgettes are too expensive here, i'd rather have them for eating as normal in the states you can get zuchini really cheap and we grew our own at the time and always had too many so that's why my mom made bread with them!

Anyone know what you can do for a child who won't eat tomato sauce so you can't bury anything. I must have one of the fussiest eaters on the planet and it's really starting to get me down :(

She has 5 meals that she will eat, ham omlette, scrambled egg on toast, cold ham, boiled egg with julienned carrots and cucumber or boiled chicken with rice and broccoli and boiled chicken with pasta.

That's it! Nothing in a sauce or with any flavour to it at all and she won't touch potato in any shape or form.

Hi there, does she eat fruit at all - at least then she'd be getting vitamins and minerals from it, and how old is she?

DD1 wouldn't touch potatoes for years in any form - even crisps  It was a total pain, now she's older (10) she seems fairly okay and will eat the odd roast potato, hm chips (though not bought ones!) and boiled potatoes, and will sometimes eat a baked potato under protest! No way will she touch anything mashed!

DD2 hated anything in a sauce, and thinking about it DD1 always prefered pasta without sauce (a drizzle of oil and some grated cheese, even know she'd rather have it dry with a bit of pesto stirred throught it!).

The only thing I can suggest is getting a children's recipe book and making a main meal and a dessert that she chose together, then letting her eat the dessert if she tried so much of the main meal!

My god-daughter won't touch tomatoes in any form either, so we make pizza without the sauce - bit dry to my thinking, but she'll eat it happily!

The problem with my children was the consistency of certain things rather than the taste - dd2 won't touch mayonnaise, as she can't bear the texture!

If she's eating a fairly limited but still balanced diet once you take everything she eats together then I shouldn't worry. But if she is missing out on stuff then try bribery and making things together. Also I find going out for the day and coming home starving and finding something bubbling away in the slow cooker encourages children to eat - as they can't bear to wait!

If she is a bit older, you could try telling her that you are having whatever for dinner, and if she wants a different meal that is tough luck, she will have to do without, or if you're more lenient offer fruit/yoghurt etc.

i've slipped a new one into my repetoire

the other day dd asked me to make her chips and burgers

so i did HM for both but added a LOT of my homemade veggie seasoning i make from drying and grinding veg to both the burgers before cooking and the chips after cooking

she got a decent dose of veggies without ever knowing it and it was really nice on the chips ;)

Sorry Mummysaver I missed your post, thanks for the advice and for making me feel my child isn't such an oddity.

She loves fruit of all kinds and considering she is only 4 will try most of them, she even loves kiwi.

She happily eats cabbage, carrots, broccoli and peas, she did try sprouts but didn't like them and unfortunately DH agreed with her :( She will attempt sweetcorn sometimes but is not keen. It's just that I feel guilty dishing out food when we have potatoes and she only has the veg :(

Usually if our toddler won't eat a dinner we'll put it in the fridge and tell him he can't have anything else. Usually he'll want to eat it later when he realises we're not going to give him burgers but if he still doesn't want it then we won't give it him again (usually means he genuinely doesn't like it). Veg we blend and either mix with fruit juice or put in gravy/mash.

When I was a kid I used to love grapes and cherry tomatoes. In the Summer we'd put them in the freezer and have them like little ice lollies. My aunties trick with her little girl is to peel a banana, wrap it in foil, then freeze it. The expansion of the water as it freezes makes the cells burst and gives it a nice, creamy, ice-cream texture. Don't take it out and forget about it though, it'll turn into mush. We were allowed chocolate once a week on Fridays as a treat. We actually requested that rule. I suppose we knew it was unhealthy to eat too much but I think really we liked the delayed gratification. It isn't a treat if you get to eat it everday.
