would it be worth doing on an 1999 Ford fiesta with 110,000 miles on the clock0

if you dont mind moving up a notch, try a Mk3 Golf. They are by no means as big as the current Golfs yet they are solid and reliable. I bought a 1996 Golf Gti for a grand. Its in excellent condition with a FSH and all the extras inc aircon. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0

get another engine put in the fiesta and when they do it get them to fit a new timing belt at the same time
your car is probably 500-00 quid as it is that is why they offered you 120-00remember it is nice to be important
but more important to be nice

how much do you think the car is worth at the moment with the timing belt fault, it passed its mot less than a month ago and is in very good condition .The garage told me the pistons were bent ( the rac man looked in the oil tank as i reved the engine) .0

Less than you have been offered. However, if you broke it you could make a couple of hundred on EBay.
I don't think I would be messing around putting an engine in an 11 year old car.0 -
Depends on your attitude towards cars and the various cost options. Few hundred quid for a new engine and carry on using a car that's a known entity. Compared with thousand or more on an unknown entity.
That it's 11 years old doesn't mean much.
As a car with a knackered engine it's worth !!!!!! all, or a few hundred tops in parts.Happy chappy0 -
At 1000 you are always running a risk of buying a bad car. I'd fix the old car, but if you prefer not to, stick to makes that are cheap to repair if they go wrong - someone mentioned a volvo, and if you get a good one, great, but a small problem can cost hundreds in parts. Same for renaults. Fords and Vauxhalls tend to be cheaper to put right if there is a problem.0

I can see where you guys are coming from but the OP knows little about cars and spending money on another engine if ytou are not clued up could be just as much a disaster as buying another car. Although you know the car you don't know the engine so you probably need to start with a cam belt etc.0

Thanks for all the information and help , i just got back from the garage i asked about a new engine but again he qouted me £600 , so i just collected £130 he offered and said goodbye . When buying a used car privately is it sold as is or as i am covered by any laws .0
