I really hope you manage to get some compensation out of them - what do we pay our road tax for???
This happened to me a couple of months ago and i needed a new front wish bone - about £150 - funnily enough the next day the pothole was fixed before I could get a pic. Did not bother even trying to get compensation out of them as everyone I spoke to seemed to have tried and failed.
Please let us know how you get on though. Good luck!0 -
I knwo somone that was compensated with the funds for a new wheel and tyre due to a pot hole, they submitted a letter, photo`s of the hole a photo of the wheel (alloy) and a quote to get the repairs done well in his case quote for new whell and tyre.If it doesnt pay rent sell it.
Mortgage - £2,000

So the thing to do is come back & take a pic, and only then report the hole - before they rush to fix it!
And while all us motorists whinge, think of the effect of a cyclist entering a big pothole.
I recall having to send several letters to our council to get them do do something about the drainage on a stretch of country road that was often iced over - after I had seen 2 accidents at the same spot on ice at the same time of the morning. So perhaps we should all start reporting road damage BEFORE it causes damage rather than after.0 -

Our Almera needs new bushes on the wishbone, but this is because of speed bumbs installed a few years ago. Reckon there's a chance of this going through? Our last Almera (bought 95, sold 2000) never needed this but the bumps came in during 2002-3. Coincidence? I think not. I have to go over 3 speed bumps every time I drive home or leave in the morning
Has anyone managed to get compensation for this??

None whatsoever.but the bumps came in during 2002-3
No way can you prove a direct link over this time period of many years.
It's just normal "wear & tear".I have to go over 3 speed bumps every time I drive home or leave in the morning
These are not defects in the road. They are there for a specific reason (whether you agree or not).
Perhaps you should try to change your driving style to lessen the wear & tear on your car.
They aren't going to go away no matter how much any of us want them to.0 -

Thanks for your advice, for your information I'm a full member of the IAM, and as such have no problem with my driving technique otherwise I would not have passed my advanced test in July 05.
Speed Bumps cost more lives than they save and all should be removed. How about teaching children to look before they cross the road instead of running blindly then having a go at the motorist for being there in the first place? How about ambulances/fire vehicles which have to slow down for speed bumps? How about patients with spinal injuries - I shudder to think how many people have ended up worse off because of these awful "calming" devices. These cost lives. Don't you see that?

Yes, I can prove it, because some of my neigbours and residents in our area with not so new cars are also suffering similar problems. Coincidence again? :rolleyes:0 -

You stand absolutly no chance of getting any type of compensation. They will more than likely think it is a joke. Can you really see them giving you some sort of payment? Imagine all the cases that would follow.
You cannot prove that the speed humps are the reason for the problems with your car, whether you think you can or not.
Sorry but this is not going to happen im afraid0 -

You may have heard of Honest John, a columnist for the Daily Telegraph. He supports this cause and is starting a campaign against speed humps. He is in the process of proving that speed humps do cause damage to vehicles (not 4x4s) and cost lives in terms of delayed response/journey times by emergency services.0 -

I know that there are problems with speed humps, not arguing this point. Its common sense that they slow emergency vehicles down, that is not the point here though. Your asking whether you could get compensation over the damage to your bushes. In my opinion you stand no chance. If you do get compensation then there would be millions of cases bought all stating the same as you. There is no way you would get compo.0
