If they're both neutered it shoudl just be a matter of patience, but if one isn't..........don;t do it!

I find that boy cats, when snipped, are much more docile than girls. My girlie won;t let any other cat within spitting distance (literally) of the area she considers her territory.

  • I have 2 cats, both female - mother and daughter. I thought they would get on well but as the daughter has grown up (now 3 years old) they just do not get on at all. The mother hisses whenever she just catches sight of her daughter and although they don't actually fight they do have the odd minor scuffle. I find it really sad, kind of reminds me of my own relationship with my mother but thats another story altogether!!!!!

I don't suppose there is anything that can be done about it? (the cats, not my mother!!)
  • We have lovely disputes between our 2 toms. One was definitely the boss until our baby came along. Then the less dominant one realised that he was 'in' with the new human. He could lie next to him and enjoy the company, but the dominant cat was scared. The roles reversed pretty quickly and now it is the previously weaker one who will demand the other to get up and give him the place on the sofa he's warmed up.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

When my Mum & I moved in with my Stepdad he had three neutered male cats, aged 7, 8 & 9 & I had one male neutered aged 8. My cat spent his first week living at the bottom of the garden, just coming to the house for food, and he & the 9yr old of my Stepdad's had a few spats, but they were all ok.

I've got 3 toms, all adopted, one neutered and they were all introduced to the household at different times, several months apart. They do fight every now and again (especially the younger one) but on the whole everything's gone well. The first few weeks after introducing a new tom resulted in occasionally hissy fits, sulking and general whinging cat noises but nothing really bad has ever happened. The worst that's ever happened is a fight between the second and third intrroductions, which was soon over when I gave them both a good shooing. They spent the night outside in the cold and come morning time they had put their problems behind them and seemed more concerned with getting warm and eating breakfast

I had two neutered male cats, I got one a couple or years after the other and they got on just fine. They slept on different beds, came and went as they pleased and didn't really bother each other very much.

Don't worry, keep your sons cat in and let yours go out, let them both wander around and don't worry if they have the occasional scrap, that's what cats do sometimes. I'm sure it will be fine!
Just run, run and keep on running!

  • When my friend was staying with us earlier this year after a relationship break-up, she brought her older cat (5 years or so) with her. We then got two kittens, one boy and one girl. There was a lot of hissing at first, but eventually they all because best friends and slept in a little heap on the sofa.

Of course, our boy cat was not sexually mature at the time, which helped, but if they are both neutered then I'd say it largely depends on the nature of the cats involved. My boy cat is big, amiable and daft, and no-one could possibly take any offence at him.

    hi
im a vet nurse and often deal with clients with similar problems. lots of good advice on here, but i would also advise you to phone your vets and ask to speak to head nurse / qualified vet nurse for their advice. they should give advice for free, and as every situation is different, i would say that you are best talking to a professional. if not, i have a good friend who has done courses in cat behaviour, and MAY be happy to discuss with you.
    good luck :)

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
