    It can do yes
Run Speedtest with NOTHING else running except the firewall and see what the result is

What router are you using? I used to find that on my 20Mb Virgin connection, I oculd only get about 14Mb max - but I was Ok with that. When I upgraded to 20Mb, Virgin inisited that I have a new router from them. I wasn't too happy at this, but acquiesced. When the engineer came round, we 1st connected the new 50Mb modem to my existing router and saw no increas in speed from about 14Mb. Plugging the modem directly into my laptop (and performing the recommended tweaks) and I got 50Mb!!!. Attaching the new Netgear router and we still got 50Mb; so the limit was set by what my old Netgear router could sustain

Virgin themselves recommend using the TCP optimizer at speedguide.net(slash)downloads.php to tweak the TCP setting on each PC to be able to acheive 50Mb

Are you wired to a router or straight from the modem to your computer?
