Change your name after BR. Any thoughts?

I have been toying with the idea of changing my name (real one - not MSE user name!)
This has come about due to technology really. I have a very unusual and unique name. So unique I am the only one in the world with it (cos I made it up when I got married!) Its great being different, but not so great when you don't want people searching for you and finding your full name and address on the gazette website.....
I guess I could move then the old address on the gazette will have nothing to do with me, but thats really not going to happen for a very long time (due to social housing and secured tenancy things!)
I am just a bit concerned about prospective employers doing a search for me - doing AATs at college in Sept, and I think that employers (cos they are usually a bit backward-thinking) don't really want an ex-BR for an accountant!
Just not sure how it would all work. Has anyone done this or thought about it?

I'm thinking about it too. Like to hear comments etc."What does not kill you makes you stronger"0

in my experience it makes no odds. My OH went bankrupt under his maiden name, then when we married he changed it to my surname. The searches that are done link the two names somehow, so they can still see that you are an ex bankruptee.0

Hi,
If you want to change your name then you do not have to do anything in law other than simply start using your new name, providing there is no intention to defraud by the use of a new name.
You do not have to go through any legal (and expensive) use of anything such as 'deed poll'.
Some agencies ( such as passport office etc) will require some degree of proof which can be obtained by making a statutory declaration. This is something that can be sworn before a solicitor, JP or the like and attracts a fairly small fee.

I guess Sky, if you change it to something more mundane it will prevent people idly googling you and coming up with adverse stuff, rather than people actually having to go out of their way to find specific info about you. I know. Its just getting to used to not being unique I suppose! But if needs must, then Sarah Smith it will be!
And Sassy - I know that on my credit file, the names will still link. But they wont link on anything else, so prospective employers won't find my BR stuff.0
