Hounded to take out new contract
I suspect for most people a cheap PAYG contract is more cost efficient than a monthly subscription, since it rarely takes more than a few minutes to say what is necessary and the longer calls can be left for your landline. This is certainly the case for me.
However, this can't be very profitable for the mobile operators who seem to be eager to sell you some contract or other in the hope you can be duped to using the mobile more than you really need. Unfortunately this is getting very annoying. It seems that one organisation after other is phoning me every other day to take out a new contract.
Anyone else have this problem? how do they get the number and can these calls can be stopped?

We get these calls; we also get these texts - which is very annoying.
We say 'NO' very firmly and say that you are about to hang up if you cannot accept my decline of their offer.
Eventually they will give up.
Good luck0 -
Just hang up straight away. I used to work in one of these call centres and most people do!!IF YOU LIKE MY POST PLEASE CLICK "THANK YOU!"

I have free evening and weekend calls to land lines on my contract, £22.00 per month, so it's cheaper than using my land line and with 100mins free day time minutes I use mobile more than land line now. Don't dismiss it if you can get a good deal.if i had known then what i know now0

Mobile numbers can also be registered with the Telephone Preference Service it will take 28 days but after that they are committing an offence if they continue to call you.I have a cunning plan!
Proud to be dealing with my debts.0 -
Register your number with the Mailing Preference Service http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/ and then it will be illegal for companies to call you without your consent. (also, in case you haven't heard of them, BT offers to register your landline with MPS for you)
But having said that, why not consider some of the offers? If you are organised and go with a reputable company, after cashbacks they can work out to be totally free (for a phone and e.g. 200 minutes per month)! There are loads of threads about these offers in these forums.0 -
Thanks I will try some of these suggestions0

I just ask them to hold on and put the phone to one side.
If they want to sit there for 10 mins at mobile charges that is entirely up to them

i once asked the caller where he got the number from as it was my son's(who is 10) NEW no. and no one knew it!
he said that they put in first 4 or 5 digits in google or something like that can't remember exactly and that gives them few random numbers!Honesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site
