BOS - Can't access my overdraft and no idea why

Can anyone explain to me what might be going on here. The account is my husband's so I can't call to find out and hubby is working so can't call till he gets home.

Anyway, the account has an overdraft of £600. At the moment the balance is showing as -£194, with an available balance of £0. And we are unable to take any money out of the ATM.

Now, I am pretty darn sure that -£194 is not over and above the overdraft. We should still have £400 of the overdraft to use.

We have a guaranteed overdraft limit of £3000 available, so I experimented and increased our overdraft to £800 (so that if it was £194 over our overdraft, it would cover it), which was accepted immediatly but STILL it's showing as £0 available balance.

Anyone have this happen to them or explain what's going on?

As far as I know there are no direct debits to come out and no cheque has been paid in recently.

  • are you genuinely stupid or did you not think phoning them might be the right answer.

Possibly over a daily withdrawal limit or some sort of block on the account. Only the bank will know.

Your available balance is £0 - probably because £300 has been taken out of an ATM and £300 is the maximum withdrawl of cash from a ATM each day.

Seems a bit harsh in the context of:
The account is my husband's so I can't call to find out
So which staff member do you think would break the data protection act?

The OP is right not to call.

I am completely sick of the attitude of some people on this forum
What is going on and why is their so much nastiness at the moment?
Who the hell do you think you are Linas speaking to people like that?

That was bang out of order. I believe the OP thought that she may find an answer on here or somone who did know the answer to put her mind at rest until her husband comes home from work!

I wish some posters on here would remember what Martin has on his Forum Rules :

arrow.gif Pls be nice to all MoneySavers. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.

OP: I am sorry. I don't know why its showing as no avaibale balance, I bank with BOS and have not had this happen to me. Calling and asking I think may be the only option.

Entirely agreed with people calling out LinasSomethingorother as being out of order there. There's being snarky in an amusing way and there's being a !!!!!! to people, and LinasAndlucy there is way over the line.

Anyway - I would advise your hubby to speak to BOS as soon as humanly possible, as something is very much up with your account.

However, as an aside, I would be worried about you having access to his balances and such - you say you got the balance from the ATM, and that requires you to know his PIN and have his card. If BOS find out, through any means, that he's given you his card and/or told you or anyone else the PIN, they will hold him liable for any fraud on his account whatsoever, and possibly make a note to that effect on the account. So be very, very careful.

Agreed! :money: OP: I do hope you come back and let us know what it was?

Heh. It does rather worry me the number of people who give girlfriends/boyfriends or just plain friends their card and PIN, and despite being told over and over again that they'll be liable for any sh*t that goes down on their account from that point on continue to do so. I've had some fun conversations with customers to this effect, followed usually by the slightly less fun updating of their customer file with a short note that they've been negligent with their card and that they've been advised that it's their problem from that point on if they want to carry on acting like a tit with their account.
