  • Like i said, it seems as if your new place is a bit old boys club, if this has seriously upset you why don't you speak with your HR department?

Sounds like they are being unreasonable but unfortunately this is the control employers have in modern UK. I think you will have to tow the line and maybe start looking around for another job.

I think after you've been there a year you have more rights (such as to an Employment Tribunal) so you might want to wait until then to make more of a stand on this.

'spouted all this hooharr about health and safety and i was doing an exercise routine and as such they could not condone or permit me to continue'.

I sometimes wonders why they bother, when there's people like you who don't realise that health and safety is in place for your benefit not the companies. As a company owner, I find health and safety a pain because of the costs involved in implementing it. You however are moaning about not being able to do a 'mantra' on a staircase landing - shakes head and walks away.....

I can't see why you want to bring your religion into the workplace anyway. There is an old saying 'To labour is to pray'. Or even 'While I breathe, I pray'.

I have worked in an office where they had a little room at the end of the corridor which was classed as a medical/prayer/quiet room. My boss said if someone is feeling ill or needs to destress or reaffirm their spiritual wellbeing it was there to be used. Obviously they preffered if you used it in your own time, but sometimes with managers approval it was used during work time. EG a staff member who had problems with migranes found by taking 10 mins lay down in the quiet she could stop the migrane before it took hold. I remember having really bad morning sickness one day, and by taking a half hour out lay down I was able to go back to work rather than going home. It is in the managers interest to look after their staff

I would have thought your boss would have been pleased that you are doing soemthing that is known to lower stress levels and probably aids your focus and concentration for the afternoon in your job.

Maybe I look at things in a too simplistic a manner but there you go.

What about his poor bosses stress levels - imagine if the OP fell over and broke his neck in his place of work doing said activity. Think of the trouble it would land him in.

So PD1 would you have an issue with the OP doing their mantra, that caused you to 'shakes head and walks away'....if it were in a proper room or would it still be anathema to you?

You haven't answered my question PD1. If there was a room the OP could use, one that is available to all, would this be an issue. As you are a company owner I am just interested in what the issue there would be for you?
