When I lived in a houseshare as a student, I moved into the house when term started. Two of the other tenants moved in earlier, over the summer, and put my name on several of the bills. Didn't ask my permission; didn't tell me. I only found out when I moved into the property.

The energy supplier involved wasn't E.ON, but I would imagine that if it's possible to get away with this with one energy supplier, it might be a similar case with others.

I would definitely agree that ensuring all tenants are named on bills is the best idea, especially when you don't know them all that well.
