After reading this thread it would seem Avira is the favoured one now:confused:

Going by the number of downloads AVG is by far the favoured free option.

I have also used AVG for years, untill recenly,I started having problems updating, A month ago I decided to try Avira, and so far its been great, I find that web searches load faster and when listening to internet radio I no longer have disconnections, So for now I'll stay with Avira, to solve the email problem, I use Mailwasher free, and only allow emails from people I know to be downloaded. Interesting, I use AVG, and have found that my PC is painfully slow to upload. I think I'll be deleting it and uploading Avira instead.

    Thanks!

The free version of Avira is said to run off slower servers so the updates are meant to be a bit more problematic.
Perhaps the users could say how they have found it? I don't like waiting for AVG to update sometimes!

I used it for a while myself when "I" knew no better :p

Im not doubting your abilities or the way you have your computer set up Inactive.

What I AM saying is that the ONLY reason so many people have downloaded and used AVG over Avira or Avast is because they know no different. AVG to them is the only free one worth considering

Avira updates fine, uses less resources, scans quicker and is more capable at finding the newest nasties (trojans, viruses etc)
Ive tried all 3 of them so know what im talking about (and Panda and Kaspersky)
Ive dealt with a lot more (Mostly Norton and Mcafee which people buy a lot)

Can't say that I've noticed any update problems in the couple of years that I've had it installed - unlike previous experiences with AVG Free.
