Itchy, flaky scalp - help!

Both my 12 yr old daughter and I have got terribly dry scalps.
We are using T-Gel shampoo now which hasn't really helped and our scalps are still itchy and really flaky. As soon as we have washed it, it looks flaky again. It is really embarrassing. We live in a hard water area which I dont think helps but I was wondering if there are any certains foods we can eat which will help. We have a good healthy diet and keep active, do all the good things although slip abit at eating chocolate lol!
Can anyone advise us on what has worked for them as it is driving us mad and I dont want to go out without a hat on
Thank you

It's worthwhile having your doc take a look. Just in case it's not just dandruff. They can also prescribe if it is really bad dandruff.
Also some people are allergic to chemicals in shampoos. Check out the board about using conditioner to wash with, for more info.
Personally I find Tgel too harsh as it causes eczema to break out on my scalp. There are dandruff shampoos for sensitive skins which suit my skin better. Tesco used to do an own brand one for under a quid.
With being in a hard water area it would be trial and error to see what worked.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. I will definately try other shampoos first but if that fails, I will see the doc. Thank youStacyl1977:EasterBun0 -

I would do it the other way about tbh - see the GP before chopping and changing shampoos. There are some eczemas that look like dandruff so dont feel silly about seeing your GP0 -

A friend of mine uses essential oils a lot and suggested I use peppermint and tea tree oil but again no particular improvement but definitely better than the boots stuff. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

I have sebacious dermatitis and nothing really helps except oilatum shampoo. Others swear by Nizoral. I always thought it was dandruff, but nothing ever really worked.

Two of my daughters have terribly flaky scalps. My poor youngest gets great big sore areas.
Someone once told me to try the body shops anti dandruff shampoo. It is not cheap, but it really has been very effective. All the special stuff like T Gel would not touch it, but now it seems under control.0 -
Thanks to everyone who have posted replies. I have got quite a few ideas to think about and look into which is a good start. So, thanks again. Much appreciatedStacyl1977:EasterBun0

I used to use a shampoo called polytar for my eczema.
It worked very well but it does smell of tar.
Some people find baby shampoo works too.0 -
