Itchy, flaky scalp - help!

I'm finding Aveda's Scalp Therapy shampoo is good, and I have a very sensitive scalp. My scalp is mostly fine when I use this but if I do get a flare up I use Oliatum shampoo for a few washes and that clears it up although it does leave my hair a bit dry. Both are pretty expensive but you can use very sparingly
I do think diet etc has an impact as does stress but that's a gut feeling and I haven't managed to tie things down to any one type of food.0 -
I use Jason shampoo from the health shop which has no parabens or SLS - that's fixed all my scalp problems.

this works really well - my daughter was having terrible itching so I used cider vinegar rinse and the itching has completely stopped
it does not cost much and worth a go - just make sure that your daughter has not scratched her scalp raw as the vinegar rinse will sting0 -
In my particular case I had excessive dandruff and tried Oilatum, TGel, the Boots "expert" range including pre-wash and conditioner, I tried shampoos with tea tree oil, rubbed my head with tea tree oil, and of course used the usual suspects, ie Head & Shoulders.
For me I got relief when I tried L'Oreal's Elvive anti-dandruff Active Selenium S shampoo. It comes in a blue bottle and available from the supermarkets. I think it worked because the active ingredient is different to the active ingredients in everything else. Whatever - it is so good feeling normal again, even the horrible bloody sores I had have gone away. At two or three quid it might be worth a go.0 -
Hi (first post!)
I agree with ivylinn - I tried loads of lotions and potions, prescribed and just out of the chemist, and Polytar is the only thing that has worked (even though it does smell pretty bad). Hope you find something that works for you and your daughter as I know how miserable being a teenager with 'elephant' scalp (as my mum called it) is!

from another angle but it may help someone, i have used tgel shampoo and although i think it helped it has also discoloured my hair, my hair is white (or it was) it says on the packet it may colour blonde hair so be wary, its sort of gone a browny yellow and it will need to grow out, which it is, slowly, but its not fading0

Thanks but luckily my hair is dyed jet black and it hasn't affected it at all. Others may find this info very useful thoughStacyl1977:EasterBun0 -
Another vote for polytar - used on DS2 (15) for a few years now when he gets flaky skin on and off.0
