Can you recommend a high street bank?

Before making a decision check if they use call centres (most do)
Are you saying that a bank using call centres is a good or a bad thing? I think it's a very good thing, as they can answer straight away, rather than phoning a branch, which may well be busy and so not able to answer. I like the fact that I can put my phone number into the Halifax web site, and, at no cost to me, they will phone me, and I will be speaking to someone within seconds.0 -
I'd say Halifax. I've been with them for a few years now. I really like their online set up.. easy to use. I've had no problems.
AVOID A&L at all costs. They took a £1500 standing order out my account twice causing me all sorts of problems. It took around 20 phone calls and 3 months to sort and they woulnd't take the blame and refund my fees until I threatened the FO and sunday times! It was a nightmare.. and their online service is awful. You never really know your real balance as they are slow to show transactions. Even the staff at the call centre can't see whats going on real time (hence my SO went twice!)£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190
